I grew up in a haunted house in the sleepy wilds of Ballard in Washington, where front lawns seemed grander, roads wider, my dad’s hands larger, and everyone was a friend, or at least a potential audience member. While our ghost never showed itself, it did make its presence known from time to time. Closed doors mysteriously opening, lights blinking on and off, and the very real feeling that you were never alone. A less creative person might chalk it up to older house issues and an off-the-charts imagination…

Oh - my short story, Stone God's Wife won a Chanticleer Book Awards for BEST SUMMER READS! It's nice to be recognized, don't you think?

So, the best way to fight writer's block for me is to pick a different time to write.

I find that I am very productive when everyone else in the house is in bed, and it's just me and my laptop. There is a certain peace during these times, a certain opening up of wasn't there before. It kills me because I love to sleep! (less)

The New Year, Family, Friends, and Cats – Spiritual Growth, Reflection, Personal Growth, Cats

Today, the very last day of the year is foggy and frozen. Later on this afternoon a much-loved friend is coming over. We’ll work on our knitting projects, talk, and eat throughout the day. It’s what we do when we get together. We rarely complete a project, it’s all about the time we spend together. That’s what matters most.

Time is a funny thing. Time after time I’ve subjected myself to personality

Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
“If you want to really hurt you parents, and you don't have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country
