Jill Malone grew up in a military family, went to German kindergarten, and lived across from a bakery where they put small toys, like train engines, into chocolate, and the gummi bears were the size of mice. Richard LaBonte referred to Jill Malone's first novel, Red Audrey and the Roping, as a "nonlinear novel that jitterbugs through time and place."

"I thought this book was pretty amazing. I tore through it in a day and a half. It's intense, nonlinear (which I usually don't like but did in this case) and uses language in very surprising ways---something else I usually do not like but did with..." Read more of this review »

The story is better than the book, but what a revolution this woman was! Check out "Julie and Julia" by Julie Powell. A fascinating "companion" piece.

A delightful, unapologetic book.
Red Audrey and the Roping by Jill Malone
"This novel is probably not for everyone. It's not linear. It's not necessarily uplifting. It's fragmented, but ultimately cohesive.

The prose style is rich and evocative without being overdone or overwrought. I loved this novel from page one. And..." Read more of this review »
