Atop Pillar Rock #mfrwhooks

Over the last few months, I’ve treated subjected you to hooks from the first two book in the Passion Island trilogy:

The Seven-Foot Cupid (starring Ember Dayle and Tyler Estrella), andPandora Uncaged (starring Pandora Dayle and Aidan Forester).

Today I’m giving a sneak peek at the opening of the third and final book in the series, Triple Wedding, starring yet another of the Dayle sisters.

Panting, Teegan Dayle paused halfway up the stairs to her house on Pillar Rock. She leaned heavily against the moss-covered monolith.

“Why,” Teegan muttered to herself, “did I buy a house with so many stairs?”

She knew the answer, of course: for the prestigious address and the bird’s-eye view. From up here, she could look down on hundreds of homes in this wealthy corner of Eastcott.

Most of her neighbors on the Pillar were snobs who wanted little to do with her. Unlike her, they were descended not from mere passengers, but from the crews of the spaceships that had carried mankind to Addoray. For her, though, the point wasn’t to pretend she was better than everyone else, but to proclaim to the world that she’d dragged herself to the top of her profession.

Now if she could just drag herself to the top of the Pillar . . .

Next week, I’ll show you the cover, too. But in the meantime, be sure to visit the hooks by other fine writers in the Book Hooks blog hop.

Effing Feline is so darned brilliant #wewriwa

Photos: DepositPhotos

I, Effing Feline, am so very smart! Brilliant even!

I told you last week that my cousin Lee ate every last bit of cat food and then stared at me while licking his chops. Lee is a lion and I, though exceptionally fit, muscular, and ferocious, am a housecat. It was easy to realize he was wondering how I’d taste with ketchup catsup.

But I’m also brilliant, so I outsmarted him, and it was the most shiny thing I’ve ever done in my glistening career. I’ll tell you what I did after this word from my sponsor, Pandora Uncaged.

Last week, search and rescue leader Aidan Forester, was awakened in the middle of the night by a seven-foot tall stranger who flies him to meet his best childhood friend, Pandora Dayle. The stranger (who is an apprentice Cupid for a secret organization) speaks first.

“I am from Flanders Island, Miss Dayle, an insignificant dot in the Landfall Island Archipelago.”

Pandy spoke quickly, trying to keep the conversation away from the mobeave. “And you came all the way from there just to fly Aidan around? That makes little sense, unless he’s become important beyond all his old ambitions.”

Aidan shook his head. “I’m still the same unassuming guy with modest ambitions.”

Booker cleared his throat, making it sound like a scoff.

Pandora looked from one man to the other. “Then why’re you here? We don’t get many visitors.”

And a few more but not too many. I know you have a lot of snippets to get to.

Instead of answering, Aidan nodded to Booker. “Care to explain?” Then he added to her, “Coming here was his idea. I apologize, but I’d totally lost track of you.”

“No,” Booker said. “I look forward to seeing you handle this. You have the reputation of being adept at talking to women.”

Aidan frowned and shook his head. “As I said, this was his idea. He woke me in the middle of the night and flew me here in order to…”

He let his voice fade away. He spread his hands as though trying to disclaim all responsibility. Then he took a deep breath and gave an apologetic shrug. “He wants me to get you pregnant.”

Effing Feline here again. Know how I outsmarted Cousin Lee? It was really diabolically clever of me, if I do say so myself, because it kills two birds with one stone. I’m purring with delight at my own sly cleverness.

I introduced Lee to my often obnoxious housemate who doesn’t mind being covered with ketchup — Twiggles the Dog! Heh, heh, heh. Gosh darn it, am I smart or what?

Buh-bye Twiggy!

Pandora Uncaged

Book Two in the Passion Island Trilogy — A friends-to-lovers future romance

Pandora Dayle is her family’s disgraced black sheep. Ten years after running away, she’s rebuilt her self-respect at an isolated facility for saving animals native to the colony’s planet. Her redemption feels as fragile as a dream, but she’ll be okay if nothing traumatic happens.

But when the best friend from her innocent youth arrives, her insecurities mushroom.

Aidan used to be Pandora’s best friend. Since his teen years, he’s held heroic jobs—police officer and now Search and Rescue leader. He adored innocent young Pandora so much he compares every woman to her idealized memory, and finds them wanting.

But when he rediscovers the real thing, she’s not at all what he expected.

Booker, a naïve Apprentice Cupid for a secret organization, receives his second assignment: get Pandora and Aidan to mate. They’d been close friends, so his strategy is simple: He flies Aidan to her island and tells him to impregnate Pandora.

Seducing her in his sleep without moving a finger #mfrwhooks

I’m continuing today with another snippet from my brand new release, Pandora Uncages— book two in the Passion Island trilogy. Last week, Pandora awoke after talking so long with her old friend, Aidan, that they both fell asleep. We pick up where we left off.

Without realizing it, she’d snuggled her leg over his and pressed her core against his thigh, enflaming her desire.

What about Aidan? What did he feel for her now?

He slept with one arm around her and the other at his side. She raised her head to look down his body. It was hard to tell in the half-light from the window, but he didn’t appear to be excited by her embrace and the increasingly blatant rocking motion of her body.

A one-sided embrace. How humiliating, even if he never knew. She stopped rubbing against him.

But she couldn’t stop her feelings.

Could she, though, build an emotional firewall to keep them from deepening into a love so profound it’d make the rest of her life a hollow shell?

How could she possibly do that, when it was already too late?

Well, the first step was obvious. Extricate herself from this erotic embrace.

Moving her arm was easy. Moving her leg wasn’t. Her ankle was trapped by his calf. Eventually, she managed to reposition herself by rolling from her side to her back.

The movement disturbed him. Although he didn’t open his eyes, he turned toward her. His palm landed on her waist and then up several inches to the bare skin where her pajama top had risen.

It felt sooo good. The heat of his hand and its closeness to her breast—an inch, maybe two—were all she could think about. Her chest rose and fell with increasing power. The ripples in her belly threatened to become a roaring tsunami that washed away all sense, all restraint.

And on his part . . .

. . . he just slept.

It was hard for her to comprehend, but his eyes were closed, his breathing even. Damn the man, he was literally seducing her in his sleep without moving a finger.

Effing Feline gulps #wewriwa

Photos: DepositPhotos

I, Effing Feline, welcomes my cousin Lee to my house (that’s the good news), but I forgot how much lions eat (that’s the bad news).

I had enough cat food on hand to feed Lee a snack (that’s the good news), but he ate every last bit of it(that’s the bad news).

The REALLY bad news is . . . well, I’ll tell you after this word from my sponsor, Pandora Uncaged.

Last week, search and rescue leader Aidan Forester, was awakened in the middle of the night by a seven-foot tall stranger who bundles him into a flitter and flies off — but not to search for a lost person. He speaks first.

“Who, exactly, are you?”

“My name’s Booker Markevious.”

Which told him little. The fact that Booker didn’t need Aidan’s S&R team told him more—this was a small-scale search. “Where are we going?”

“Quak. That’s the Colony Wildlife Containment Center, off the coast of the South Ocean.”

“I’ve heard of it. Don’t know much about it, though.”

“Tell me what you do know.”

And a few more but not too many. I know you have a lot of snippets to get to.

Aidan yawned then fell silent as he marshaled his thoughts. “It’s a bipartisan facility, jointly run by Eastcott and Westerlin, for studying indigenous wildlife.

Effing Feline here again. You want to know the bad news? The REALLY bad news?

Cousin Lee is getting hungry. And he’s staring right at me.

Gulp!

It’s Alive! #mfrwhooks

No, I don’t mean Frankenstein’s monster — Hoornaert’s monster, Pandora Uncaged, book two in the Passion Island trilogy. The book can stand alone, although it alludes somewhat to events in book one.

It’s heroine is Pandora Dayle, the younger sister of book one’s heroine, Ember Dayle.Booker, the seven-foot cupid makes an appearance that is even clumsier than in book one.To guide the action, I chose the Friends-to-Lovers romance trope.

Pandora Dayle, a woman with a past, hasn’t seen the best friend from her teenage years, Aidan Forester, in fifteen years. But now a clumsy Apprentice Cupid has flown him to the isolated animal shelter where she’s the Acting Director. Since there are no hotels for visitors, she lets him sleep at her place.

And last night, they talked until all hours.

Sometime after dawn, Pandy emerged enough from sleep to realize she lay in a man’s arms, and even before she was awake enough to think, she knew whose arms they were. Aidan’s. Only his embrace could feel and smell so right. Sleeping warm and snug in his arms was as good as sex, though in a completely different way.

He lay on his back, his posture decorous and proper. She, on the other hand was draped over him like a blanket, and here in the tropics, blankets were unnecessary. Her leg was thrown over his and her hand had snuck under his t-shirt and around his bare torso.

A huge grin stretched her mouth.

He was warm, so warm. Her cheek rested on his chest, which rose and fell as his heart beat in the quiet rhythm of sleep. If waking up beside Aidan after a chaste night made her chest bubble with happiness and hope, how wonderful would she feel if they’d made love?

That vivid thought woke her completely.

After a few moments of delicious fantasy, she shoved the conjecture aside. He knew now that she’d been a whore. He knew she’d screwed other men.

But . . . hundreds of men, maybe thousands of men? Could he possibly realize the extent of her debauchery? Or would the realization suddenly hit while loving her, turning each thrust into an act of anger rather than love?

Even if that never happened, she’d be distracted from pleasure, wondering if this was the moment her past curdled his love. His easygoing manner hid a fiery temper. If Aidan’s temper ever turned on her, she’d die right then and there, even if he never struck a blow. Which he’d never do, of course. She knew that as profoundly as she knew the sun would rise in the east.

Some risks weren’t worth taking. Now that he was back in her life she wasn’t sure she could live without him.

But could she keep him in her daily life without deepening their relationship into passion? Probably not. At some point he’d return to Westerlin, leaving her bereft, unless….

Unless the sun rose in the west.

Really weird (non-alien) animals #2

In Pandora Uncaged, book 2 in my Passion Island trilogy, Pandora Dayle is in charge of a animal hospital / zoo for indigenous animals on the new colony planet, Addoray. As you can imagine, there are loads of strange creatures in the book — slytherins, mobeaves, chasm cats, slop dogs, and the ubiquitous boothies.

But you don’t have to go to Addoray to find strange animals. Here are a few of Earth’s weirdest creatures that I didn’t know existed until recently.

Gobi Jerboa

I might have seen pictures of this guy before. Maybe. He looks almost normal until he stands up.

Kinda gross, but harmless.

Effing Feline wishes you Happy Easter #wewriwa

Photos: DepositPhotos

I, Effing Feline, wish you a happy Easter.

What a great day!  Not only is it Easter, but I’m sharing my food bowl with the honest-to-God real Cadbury Bunny! That’s right–my cousin Lee and finally arrived! Here’s a picture of me greeting him. This one’s going in my scrapbook for sure!

(Twiggles the Dog helped me with this pic, enlarging my head to better show that I, Effing Feline, am cousin Lee’s equal. Thanks, Mutt.)

Lee brought his work costume with him, and that’s super neat. I’ll s how it to you after this message from my sponsor, Pandora Uncaged. Last week, the love interest, Aidan Forester, was awakened in the middle of the night by a seven-foot tall stranger. We pick up where we left off.

The tall guy was annoying, but Aidan was the Search-and-Rescue team leader on call, and if the giant had orders for him, well . . .

“What’s going on?”

“I’ll explain on the way.” He took Aidan’s arm and guided him out of his bedroom and into the parlor, where Maylee stood in a sacklike nightgown. As she handed Aidan the duffel bag of clothes and personal supplies all Search and Rescue officers kept on hand for emergencies, she cocked her head at him, an inquisitive look on her face. He spread his hands and shrugged.

“On the way where?” he asked when they were out in the brisk midnight air.

“To intercept the man whose place you’re taking. He’s useless to us.”

“Who’s us?”

And a few more but not too many. I know you have a lot of snippets to get to.

The giant just shook his head. “We need you on the islet and no one else.”

“Me? Why? What islet?”

Effing Feline here again. Here’s Lee in his work costume! Kinda makes you hungry for a creamy chocolate egg doesn’t it?

Booker vanished #mfrwhooks

I’m continuing today with another snippet from my brand new release, The Seven-Foot Cupid — book one in the Passion Island trilogy. Last week, the seven-foot-tall title character burst in on Ember and Tyler in an old cabin located in a large lava tube. The big dude becomes even more mysterious.

“You two work extremely well together,” Booker said. “You’re perfectly in sync.”

“Oh, give it up,” she said. “We’re busy. Go back where you came from.”

“Speaking of which,” Tyler said, “where did you come from?”

“Flanders Isle,” he said, naming a small island in the East Ocean. The population was small, only a few thousand. The people kept to themselves.

She wondered if all the Flemish were so tall. Probably not, or everyone would know about it. “Go back there and leave us alone.”

“Leave you alone? Yes, I like the sound of that. Tell you what. You two get to know each other while I head off for a while. I may need to come back, but maybe not.”

“We can hope,” Tyler said.

Ember didn’t trust that he was actually leaving, so she stepped toward the middle of the tube and turned her flashlight to high so she could watch him go. Tyler must’ve felt the same way, because he came to her side. In silence made tense by her awareness of Tyler’s nearness, they watched the big man’s graceful steps, almost like he was gliding.

“What do you think he was really after?” she asked.

“And why us? How did he know where to find us? We’re the only people for miles around. He couldn’t have stumbled on us by accident.”

They turned to look at each other while speaking. When Ember turned back, Booker was gone. Vanished — which as impossible. There was no place to hide.

“What the black holy hells?”

The Seven Foot Cupid

Book One in the Passion Island Trilogy

Ember Dayle is a tough lady who prides herself on handling anything her newly colonized planet can throw at her, so after an injury, she’s determined to prove herself again. She gets her chance when ordered to explore a mysterious cave on a wilderness mountain. Until that’s done, the last thing she needs is the distraction of a man.

Tyler, an explorer from her town’s fierce rival, is sent to explore the same cave. Like Ember, he’s been in an accident . . . but he was the only survivor. When he meets her, he’s drawn not only to her beauty and toughness, but by her ability to deal openly with her accident.

Booker is a naïve Apprentice Cupid for a secret group that hopes to make the colonists stronger, healthier, and smarter by matching people with compatible genes. His first assignment — Ember and Tyler. His strategy — lock them in an abandoned cabin together.

He doesn’t realize he’s locked them in with the fiercest, most intelligent native beast ever discovered. Can love help them survive?

Effing Feline wants a car #wewriwa

I, Effing Feline, can hardly control myself. Cousin Lee is coming. For real this time, and in style! You should see The vehicle he travels in. Fancy, fancy. I’ll show you the picture he sent after this message from my sponsor, Pandora Uncaged.
