Let It Be Sunday, 191!
Hello Sunday friends!
I’m glad you’re here. I hope you’re setting into the day with ease. Take some time to just…. not, today. You know?
This week has been remarkably rainy and steamy and I’ll tell you what… it’s not friendly weather for a girl with curly bangs. Nevertheless, life goes on – someway somehow.
The news has been much more weighty than my hair woes and we’ve got a new Supreme Court Justice and a deeply divided country to show for it. The earth is rumbling and heating and still spinning around the stars and here we are mostly trying to do our best about it.
I officially finished my yoga teacher training this week and I cried with pride about it.

Whole Stuffed Tomato Dumplings
Steady as we go.
That’s the mantra that’s been running through my head the last few days. Steady and go. Steady and keep on.
I mean… I’ve definitely also stress-cleaned my closet. I’ve definitely also reached for that third cup of coffee when I CERTAINLY know better. I’ve also lost my patience and cried in the car over a Kasey Musgraves song. NEVERTHELESS… steady as we go.

Let It Be Sunday, 190!
Hello my friends. We’ve made it to Sunday. That in itself this week feels… like a bit of deliverance. Just a bit.
I hope this finds you with a moment to unwind yourself. I’ve felt pretty wound and bound this week. The Senate hearings, the content, the tone, the spectacle, the opinions, it’s been PLENTY on top of life’s normal work and pay the bills hustle. Can we take a moment to acknowledge that whether we want or have the ability to, we’ve carried a lot this week.

Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
I bought my dad a milkshake yesterday. Strawberry – a solid choice though I remember him ordering Pineapple Malts when I was a kid which tipped me off early to his playful food genius. It’s pretty sweet sharing a milkshake with Dad, any flavor, any age.
The offering today is a milkshake – roasty, toasty, and sweet. And while we’re past the summer days (someone tell that to the heat and humidity in New Orleans), and while we’re starting to fluff our sweaters and think about roasting our vegetables – the invitation is to subvert all that a make ourselves a small toasty milkshake.
I published this recipe years and years ago on my blog.

Julia’s Fried Pistachios with Lemon Yogurt
I went to Greece this week on a whim. On a whim, on an adventure, on a gut hunch that this sort of invitation was one to pay attention to, one that felt like a spark of LIFE in everyday life. Gut hunches are the feels I pay attention. Where it’s hard to feel the difference between nerves and excitement. That’s where the good stuff lives.
Greece is as generous and I’d imagined.

Let It Be Sunday, 189!
Hello sweet friends.
Welcome to your weekend! I realize I did y’all dirty this week by mentioning that I adopted a dog into my tiny family of me and Tron without sharing a picture of our sweet girl. Her name is Maggie and she’s a sweet little mama pup. We’re learning how to be in the world together and it’s pretty great. Also, it turns out that it takes a village to take proper care of a dog, so my friend and neighbor Nicole and I share Maggie and really… it’s super progressive and so helpful.

Let It Be Sunday, 188!
Hello Sunday friends!
How are you feeling this week? I hold a general sense of deep exhaustion as the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings and the anonymous Op-Ed clink through my news feed and newsy podcasts. It’s a lot of dissonance.
I have a dog now – a pound puppy (her name is Maggie and she’s 2+ years old) I share with my friend Nicole… because it takes a village of at least two to take care of a dog.

Blueberry Cobbler Thumbprint Cookies
There’s a subtle difference between craving pie and craving *making* pie.
Craving *making* pie usually hits me when I’m reaching for a cozy sweater and maybe want to therapy bake my way out of any maybe holiday induced stress. Craving actual pie… well that’s constant. Truly constant.
So! When the need for pie doesn’t align with my craving to actually make it… I turn every other dessert into a version of pie, with less effort and all the pie rewards.

Let It Be Sunday, 187!
Hello sweet friends and happy Sunday!
I hope your weekend feels long on quality time.
This weekend I’m hosting in New Orleans – it’s the first ever BakeAway – a baking, food styling, new-friend-making workshop I’m hosting at The Bakehouse. It has been incredible so far! We’re doing yoga, we’re drinking champagne, we’re experimenting with new beignet recipes, I’m wearing bold prints, we’re exploring New Orleans… it’s absolutely too much fun and I’m already so thankful for the sweet friendships I see forming around me.

Simple Fig and Mascarpone Cake
If we’re paying attention to the small milestones (and good grief- WE ARE), it’s been just over two years that I’ve had a backyard. It’s an anniversary of sorts (but really not at all).
The backyard is still partly graveled, with hopes of future raised beds. I still battle the weeds – but there are moments of such sweetness. Earlier this spring the gardenias made me think of my grandmother ever morning.
