Let It Be Sunday, 240!
Hello friends!
I’m back home in New Orleans from Dublin where it is still somehow 90 degrees with no signs of it being anything less. Dublin was such a lovely, albeit too short a time. Everyone is so kind, the hills are so green, the sheep are so round, and the croissants at Bread41 are truly remarkable.
I’m going to use this Sunday to spend some time in my garden and in the kitchen.

Let It Be Sunday, 239!
Hello my dears.
Welcome to your Sunday. Or your Monday. Welcome to it, wherever this finds you.
I spent the week in Los Angeles celebrating my dad’s 70th birthday (he’ll always be 45 to me) and hustling around town taking meeting about a project that may or may not see the light of day. Sometimes you’ve got to throw your hands up but stay on the hustle. Both things can coexist.
I’m headed to Ireland (IRELAND!) for a very quick trip this week. I’ll be wearing flannel, milking a cow, and learning how they make Bailey’s Irish Cream. I’m taking all the adventure I can as it comes.
I hope you’re settling into the idea of fall.

Cashew Turmeric Granola
I stay prepared, big and small.
I’m prepared for tomorrow’s day of work. I mean… insofar as I have a bra and a pair of jeans set out on my bedroom chair.
I’m prepared for my hungry hungry cat with extra bags of food. I’m prepared for my travel schedule with my passport and this face mask.
I’m prepared for a good time with a drawer full of sparklers and a bar full of gin and a freezer with plenty of ice.
I’m prepared for a hurricane with extra drinking water, a mostly full tank of gas, and flood insurance like a dang adult.
But mostly I prepare for my hunger… and the hunger of anyone who crosses the threshold. This granola, or some version of it, stays in my pantry. It’s something I pile in a bowl for breakfast and snack on in the afternoon.

Let It Be Sunday, 238!
Hello friends.
Welcome to another fine Sunday.
Yesterday a friend brought this tweet to my attention: @dadman_walking: 1980s parents DGAF. I broke my arm at a friend’s house when I was 5 and my mom didn’t believe me and shoved it in my coat because it was time to go home and she didn’t have time for this.
If you grew up in the 1980’s surely you have a story like this.
Mine is this: I broke my finger at school in 4th grade.

Roasted Plum Crepe Cake
Here’s the thing. There’s no time to waste. We’re here. We’re here and we’re making our own dreams come true. We’re not waiting. From here on out – we’re just going for it.
I’ve been at it for a few years now. Doggedly. Rather unapologetically. I bought a house. I made it a Bakehouse. This summer I ran around the country teaching workshops to you.
Earlier this year I met Dorie Greenspan.

Let It Be Sunday, 237!
Hello friends. Happy Sunday!
Wow you really came through for me this week.
The comments you left on the Here’s What We Know post were staggering, generous, and so beautiful. Thank you! If you have a moment or two after you browse through the Sunday links, head over and read through the comments on the post. There are over 100 of you sharing such encouraging and insightful words. It feels like you’re sharing the sentiments that get you through – and gosh, aren’t they universal?
Here’s one offering you left that is ringing through my ears.

Here’s What We Know
Every Saturday… well, most Saturday nights, I settle in to write the Let It Be Sunday post for you. It’s my favorite time of the week when I let a quiet settle over my mind and catch up on the million and three tabs I have open in my browser. A few hours usually take me late into the night and I click publish on a list of reads that hopefully feels important, frivolous, beautiful, and useful.

Dark and Stormy Cream Pie in Diamond Pecan Nut Crust
I made my favorite early autumn pie. I’m pretty confident it will be your favorite too.
Here’s the vibe: a creamy pie with the spice and tang of ginger, a kick of rum, the brightness of lime, the bitterness of dark chocolate, and the nuttiness of toasty pecan in a brilliant nut crust and candied pie topping.
It’s a Dark and Stormy Pie and it’s early autumn perfection. Spicy enough to compliment the hint of cooler temperatures we’re looking for in the air and still bright and sweet enough to fit these late summer days.

Mediterranean Feta and Fresh Tomato Tart
Friend friends, hello!
I’m seeing messages everywhere that summer is over but I’ll tell you what – these tomatoes are telling us otherwise.
Sure, our summer days are nearing a close but I’m set on enjoying as many tomatoes, peaches, and plums as the market will allow.
I’m just back from a summer on the road, teaching baking workshops from coast to coast. It feels like I’ve been every-which-where except home, and while there’s a bit of fatigue settling into my bones, the rest of me is buzzing with inspiration.
I spend this past weekend cooking with my friend Ashley in Seattle. Ashley is easily one of the most intuitive and heart-felt people I’ve ever shared a kitchen with. The ease with which she brings together beautiful food is such a wonder. We shared a kitchen this past Sunday, bringing together brunch for a dozen or so and Ashely whipped up her Blue Ribbon Tomato Tart from her book Let’s Stay In.

Let It Be Sunday, 236!
Hello friends,
I have a peach cake recipe burning a hole in my pocket. It’s a doozy of a blog post and every time I sit down to write it, sleep coaxes me closer. It doesn’t help that each time I sit down to finish the post I’m either already in bed or on an airplane – it’s nearly impossible to stay awake in/on either.
It would be safe to say that I’ve done too much this week.
