Let It Be Sunday, 297!
Hello friends! Good Sunday to you!
You live in the world with me. You know what it is. We’ve waited all week to find out who the next president and vice president of the United States will be and it looks like change is on the horizon! Nothing in politics feels clean or perfect to me but I think there’s a lot to be said for intention towards unity and just… decency.

Pumpkin Pasta Dinner with Sausage and Goat Cheese
Hi friends. How are you holding up this week of this year? I mean… what a question. I’m staying steady these days. Minding my own business until I need to not.
Gosh. I’ve been meaning to tell you – this is a pumpkin blog now. I’d apologize but I’m zero percent sorry for this Cajun Pumpkin Cream Pie or these Creamy Pumpkin Pie Bars.
Because I’m basically wrapping myself in pumpkin this month (yes, I’ve already roasted my decorative Halloween gourds) I found myself with two open half-cans of pumpkin puree in the refrigerator and a hankering for dinner, not dessert.
It turns out that pumpkin puree makes a very fine replacement to tomatoes for a pasta marinara sauce. And honestly, aside from chopping garlic, this sauce is just about as easy as opening a can of jarred pasta sauce. There are so many adaptations and substitutions possible in this recipe, it’s meant to feel good to you and be enjoyed on the couch with your feet kicked up like it’s a regular ol’ Friday not in 2020.
Take good care of yourself this weekend.

Pumpkin Tarte à la Bouillie
It only took me over six years of Louisiana be make a proper Cajun sweet dough and pudding pie but friends, here we are!
This is the kind of deep nuanced southern secret that takes time to reveal itself. You don’t just transplant to Louisiana and learn the secrets to gumbo and crawfish pie and sweet dough. You have to earn it with time and invitation.
Years ago when I started teaching Bakehouse pie baking classes, my assistant Sydney’s grandmother was curious about my pie crust recipe because, according to her, it was incorrect.

Let It Be Sunday, 296!
Hello sweet friends!
Gosh I’m glad for this day, aren’t you?
This week was, as the world does, everything all at once. Last weekend, as I was leaving camp in Texas I heard mention of a storm in the Gulf. In October. So far into hurricane season I did a double take. Turns out it was a fast wollop of a hurricane that passed directly over New Orleans. As I stood at my backdoor watching the storm and willing the tree in my backyard to hold tight, I thought… what is this feeling I have?

Savory Pumpkin Pancetta Waffles with greens and eggs
I haven’t had to pull out all the stops, and all of my party tricks to host brunch and dinner guests this year. In some ways it’s been a luxury to let the dishes pile and air dry on the kitchen counter and I’ve been a little lazy about keeping champagne cold in the fridge because there’s no one here to help me finish the bottle.
I feel like I’m juuuuust starting to feel comfortable gathering in small groups in my little backyard. We have birthdays and job changes and engagements to make up for with celebration, as humble as a little backyard gathering may be.
My backyard gathering is a perfect excuse to flex one of my party hosting tricks: waffles!

Candy Bar Blondies
In what I can only describe as an act of pure optimism, my boyfriend bought something like 12 pounds of Halloween candy this year. I’m taking it upon myself to devise some sort of pulley or boomerang system to safely get as many of these pounds of candy safely to each and every, few and brave, Trick-or-Treaters.
I am not safe with even one pound of candy in my house.

Let It Be Sunday, 295!
Hello friends, good morning!
How are you? No really… how are you?
I’ve had one of those weeks where I surrender to the feeling that there simply aren’t enough hours in the day knowing that there are plenty and I’ve just loaded too much on my plate. It’s temporary like everything so, ya know, we good! I feel like I’m working for next week and for next year at the same time, not a complaint, actually cool, just a really bizarre juggle.
This week my friend Sarah offered me this perspective.

Gluten Free + Dairy Free Decadent Chocolate Cake
I’m here to tell ya that this little old chocolate cake says it all. It’s easy enough to say “Oh I just whipped this up this morning knowing you were coming over for afternoon coffee.” It’s elegant enough to say “Thank you for having us over for dinner. I brought a dark chocolate cake for dessert and why yes, those are cocoa nibs.” And it’s delicious enough to say “Thank you, and can you believe it’s gluten and diary free?” All in one cake I swear!

Let It Be Sunday, 294!
Hello friends and welcome to another fine Sunday. We’re calling it a fine Sunday because we’re going to make it so.
Yesterday was the last class of The BakeAway – my ambitious 4-week online baking school. We frosted and decorated cakes, made perfect buttercream frosting, buttercream roses, and generally stressed and fretted our way through it. It was a blast, after which I collapsed on my bed for an accidental nap – the sort you wake up from and legitimately do not know what day it is. I woke up at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and could not understand what day, time, year, or planet I was on.
