Peanut Butter Cup Holiday Cookies
What do you do when you can’t sleep?
There are two schools of thought.
The first: toss and turn it out. Stay in bed, take several deep breaths, and try to take your mind from the things that make it a hamster wheel. Don’t. I repeat, do not pick up your phone to check the time or compare yourself to impossible people on Instagram. Just… you know… gently fall back into a peaceful sleep.
My brain has never let me do this, even once.
The second school of thought is one I subscribe to.

Chocolate Peppermint Black and Marble Cookies
Are you ready for it? We’ve entered the downhill slalom towards the holidays and the new year.
Despite the year we’ve endured, heck… maybe because of the year we’ve endured, I’m tipping full-body into this holiday season. My mom is sweet enough to craft these ornaments for my Christmas tree (that I’m picking up a few days late this year). I have oranges sliced in the refrigerator for stovetop potpourri, and a separate stash of oranges and cloves to make this festive orange tower. You know I have the pine candle burning and most importantly, this year I’m gearing up to send big lovey holiday care packages to friends and family.

Thankful For You!
Hello dear friends and Happy Sunday!
You’ll allow me a little break from our Let It Be Sunday post this holiday Sunday. I’ve taken a bit of time off this week to spend time with a small handful of loved ones in Texas. Our next Let It Be Sunday is #300 so I need to give it it’s proper attention when my work wheels are back running at full speed.
I wanted to thank each and every one of you who cooked from the magazine this Thanksgiving, those of you who pulled Dad’s Sweet Potato Pie from the oven, those of you who made cinnamon rolls (or cinnamon roll cake!

Cordellia Ann’s Potato Dinner Rolls
Friends, I have a last minute holiday offering for you. Oh just the most pillowy-soft, tender sweet baby angel, carb-on-carb dinner rolls.
I don’t know what your Thanksgiving looks like this year, certainly different than we anticipated earlier this January.
I hope that you’re finding ways to be safe and enjoy a sweet meal with a few people you love. I’m of the philosophy that, even though the gathering may be small, it can still be special and supremely delicious.
Enter: my Aunt Cordellia’s Famous Potato Rolls.

Hi friends! Happy Sunday.
You floored me. I read every single one of your comments on the blog this week and it was deeply humbling. You all were so generous. I’m really so thankful we’re all here together every Sunday. And here is exactly where we are!

Lemon Meringue Pie with Citrus Spiced Sugar Cookie Crust
We’re opening the windows wide and letting the love right in the kitchen today!
We’re making another of my family’s favorite pies, brought to us by my favorite fellow baker Erin Jeanne McDowell.
It’s been too many years since I’ve made a Lemon Meringue Pie and high time this classic recipe has a space on Joy the Baker. Lemon Meringue Pie was my grandfather’s favorite pie. Homemade or store-bought – if Papa was coming over to celebrate, we needed to have a Lemon Meringue Pie.
I have distinct memories of watching my dad’s homemade meringue weep, counting the minutes before we sliced into it.

What We’re Baking This Season
If you’re anything like me, you’ve got four grocery lists working. I’ve got the list for brunch with my boyfriend this weekend. I’ve got this prep list for Thanksgiving week, and the list of things I’ll need to buy fresh a few days before Thanksgiving. It’s wild, and I’m not even planning a major Thanksgiving.
It’s just that – we’re really cookin’ this year. We’ve been quarantined-up on a banana bread journey, on a sourdough journey, and now we’re on a Thanksgiving and fall baking journey.

Let It Be Sunday, 298!
Hi friends!
Me here. Joy. Joy Wilson. Joy the Baker.
That I greet us as friends each and every Sunday is no accident. That’s sincerely how I feel. If you’re here, if you’ve decided to come here beyond where google has landed you in search of a chocolate chip cookie recipe, I consider us friends. What I’ve seen the last few weeks in the comment section here has me feeling like we’ve forgotten we’re friends in baking, if nothing else.

Peanut Butter Gingersnap Chews
It’s that time of year where I find myself wearing short skirts with long sleeve sweaters, a chunky scarf with my cut off shorts. It’s silly really, but there’s that delicious bite of autumn in the wind. There’s a hint of a chill in the air down here in New Orleans, but enough of a sunny day to feel a little flirty. That alone is enough to have me ready to sugar-and-spice everything that goes into the oven.
