This Summer’s Peach Crisp Recipe
I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to this easy peach crisp recipe. With a hearty amount of crisp topping and a shallow baking pan, this recipe makes for my favorite kind of crisp: soft caramelized fruit topped with a buttery, brown sugary, (light on the oats) crisp.
If you’ve been around this part of the internet for any number of years you know that I’ve committed to serving up my most embarrassing moments with a side of something fresh from the oven for well over a decade now.

Let It Be Sunday, 431!
Hello, friends!
How was your summer? I became the Scottie Pippin of summer by launching a friendship tour across our beautiful nation, catching up with friends from various stages of my life. It was an incredible exercise in reconnecting with some of my dearest people + parts of myself that had fallen to the wayside over the past few years. So I’m urging you to start your 2024 Summer of Friendship itinerary right now because I promise promise promise you won’t regret it.

The Backyard Margarita
I’m just going to need you to add Squirt (remember that soft drink!?) to the grocery list for the weekend. No, Squirt has not gone the way of say, TAB, but does still hold a place in the soda aisle. I’ll tell ya, there is room in my fridge and in my heart for this grapefruit soda because it happens to make a VERY GOOD quickie margarita.
As much as I want a margarita every weekend, these are decidedly NOT the days to be squeezing fresh lime juice.

Let It Be Sunday, 430!
“Don’t you love New York in fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would buy you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils, if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.” – You’ve Got Mail
I am deciding it’s fall. I am over this summer and I’m declaring it fall, which means it’s time to watch You’ve Got Mail and Gilmore Girls.

My Favorite Coffee Ice Cream Without An Ice Cream Maker
Let’s make the easiest coffee ice cream! It’s creamy and scoopable, made with roasty-toasy coffee and a mega amount of crumbled chocolate cookies. This is the dessert of summer that also sometimes doubles as dinner.
Just here to introduce you to your newest kitchen superpower: ice cream without an ice cream maker. Really, this should have come a lot earlier in the summer considering we’re all basically melted to puddles at this point.

Let It Be Sunday, 429!
Friends, hello and welcome to your Sunday! It’s me! Your old pal, Joy! Look at us, sharing a Sunday. It’s my favorite!
I’ve been in New Orleans all week putting The Bakehouse back together to make it a rental during the times I’m in Houston. It turns out, I really love living in Texas. I feel in between so many things right now. I’m in between Houston and New Orleans. I’m in between moving personal things out of my New Orleans house and moving rental things into the houses.

Here’s What I’m Eating: A Summer Tomato Sandwich
By the time I was 21 you couldn’t convince me to eat these two things: A dill pickle, and a raw tomato. While I still stand by the dill pickle, I will eat one on occasion if in the middle of a fried chicken sandwich. The later, thankfully, I’ve seen the error of my ways.
I was on summer break from college when my mom handed me half of her sandwich.

Let It Be Sunday, 428!
Hello friends! I met you a few weeks ago when I had the honor of kicking off the release of Camp Joy (have you bought it yet?) with a little essay about being an indoor kid. I’m thrilled to be here as a contributor to Sunday posts, which are one of my favorite things to read!
This Sunday feels particularly special for me: I live in Sacramento, California, but I’m spending the week in Philadelphia at the Lambda Literary Writer’s Retreat For Emerging LGBTQ Voices and it begins today.

Sandwich Series: The Green Goddess Tomato Sandwich
Let’s talk about the summer tomato. They’re at their best exactly ripe and with a touch of salt and pepper, they’re perfection. Over the summers I’ve perfected my favorite tomato sandwich recipe. It’s extra – with Havarti cheese, avocado and a zippy grinder salad. Here’s how!
Sandwiches are better in the summer. I don’t know how that’s true, but it feels right.
I’m currently mentally packing for a little road trip back to New Orleans this weekend and sure, I’m thinking about the things Will and I will take care of at The Bakehouse when we’re back but also… I’m thinking about the road trip food.

Let It Be Sunday, 427!
Hi friends! It feels like a long time since I’ve gotten to chat with you. Not a big deal, I was just helping produce the best little camp cookbook this side of the planet.
Turns out my summer bucket list is exactly one thing: survive. I’m not even sure I’m doing that well. I’ve been casually flipping my life upside down (because at this point it seems like I enjoy this).
