This is a collection of music ...
This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching - hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve...we’ll meet ourselves.
This album is perfect for my insomniac ass
The perfect autumn day

I wake up slowly, lazily, and there’s a drizzle outside. I stay under the covers and read my book for a few minutes, savoring the quiet of the early morning. I snuggle with Bubu for a few minutes, and then he falls asleep on my pillow. I get up and put on my favorite pair of pjs -not too warm, because the weather is not cold yet.
Then I sit down at my laptop and write for two hours. I am writing a Regency story, a retelling of Sabrina, and I can’t get enough of the brothers’ rivalry for the coachman’s girl. As I write, I have a Poirot movie playing in the background, because the noise helps me focus. It’s the one that takes place in a boarding school, and the gloomy English weather puts me in the right atmosphere for my book. I write 2k words, immersed in the world of Jane Austen, dashing Darcy-like heroes, and glittering balls. When I finally close my laptop, it’s time to go to the pool.
Going to the pool when the weather is starting to get cold is the coziest, most enjoyable thing. I put on my swimming suit and my sweats, and then a light jacket and I grab a hat in case the rain gets heavier. But as soon as I go outside, I find out that light rain has stopped and the sun is coming out behind the clouds, bathing the orange and brown trees in golden light. I listen to my favorite music on the way, walking briskly, and feeling my blood pump. It wakes me up, after all these hours sitting at my desk dreaming of Regency England, and then I jump into the water. The pool water is cool and welcoming, sliding off my skin like a refreshing shower. After I’m done, I walk back home, and the streets smell of fireplace smoke and freshly-cooked dinner. When I get home, three packages await me; the postman’s been while I was out.
Inside are the new books I ordered, three fantasy novels and two contemporary romance ones. Just then, the DHL guy shows up with a special order from online: My own book has arrived, with a shiny new cover! It’s the purple mermaid one. I tear it open feeling fear and excitement all at once, but I needn’t have worried. It’s gorgeous. I dash off to take instagram pics of it, and make tiktoks in front of my beautiful color-coordinated bookshelves, but then I remember that my hair is still wet from swimming.
I take a scorching-hot shower and then the dude and I have a meal while watching Brooklyn 99 (one of The Halloween Heist episodes). We have brioche burgers and my favorite salad, and we talk and laugh as the window gets covered in a velvet-blue twilight. We wash up, and then put on our clothes to go outside. The dude has finished work early today, and we’re going for a quick stroll through the shops.

I put on my favorite long-sleeve dress, the one with black lace, which I have waited all summer long for the weather to be cool enough to wear, and on top of it my new jean jacket. I put on boots, because it’s raining a little again, and the streets are wet, and the dude grabs his umbrella on the way out.
We don’t end up needing it. We go to my favorite second-hand clothing shops, and I discover amazing treasures for 1 or 2 euros, and then we go to a menswear shop where the dude discovers an amazing evening jacket that makes him look and feel like a million bucks. After that, we go to my favorite bookstore. I discover about a ton of new book releases I want to buy, and the dude spoils me and tells me to buy everything, who cares? But I care, and I pick out my 3 favorite ones, and leave the rest of the new books for another trip. Gotta have something to look forward to, right? As we get out of the bookstore, surprise! We meet J and S strolling down the street (looking like idiots).
They were here with friends, but now they are going home. Well, we can’t have that. We all go to have churros, and after that, we shop around a bit more. We find nice shirts for both of them and buy them, and then we go to the candy store and stock up for the cozy, cold days ahead. Finally, laughing and almost shaking with the sudden cold that descended on the city as the night approaches, we bundle inside the car. Red cheeks, glowing eyes, muddy boots. On the way home, I read my vampire book, and it puts me in the mood for Halloween. Already the shops are decorating for it, with gauzy spiderwebs, orange pumpkins, black cats (real and fake ones), and fairy lights. The wet street reflects the lights like stars.
We all go home, and my sister and her husband and my mom are waiting for us there: It’s rehearsal day today. In a minute, my brother and his girl are there too, and we start. I quickly put on the music for the scene, and as they start rehearsing the first act of the Christmas play (they don’t remember any of their lines and hilariously improvise instead), I pop into the kitchen to make my baked rolls. I make two trays, one with savory one with sweet ones, and put them in the oven. I set the timer for 10 minutes, and run back into the living room to yell that if we’re done with the first act in 10 minutes, we can eat! Everyone springs into action.

In 15 minutes’ time, the whole house smells like freshly-baked goods, chocolate and caramel, and we are deeply absorbed into our performance. There is laughter and tears and a few mistakes, but we work hard and remember almost all of our lines. Finally, exhausted, we collapse on the sofa and start eating the baked rolls.
The dude sits at the piano and starts playing Erik Satie, and a calmness washes over all of us. We all pray for the coming season, giving thanks for each other and all the gifts we have received this day. My sister and I start discussing the Christmas carols, and then all of us together make plans for Christmas, for rehearsals, for the coming week. It’s past midnight when we say goodbye at the door, tired, but warm, full and happy. Everyone puts on their boots and coats. The night is clear and crisp, the moon a crescent on the black sky. I watch the elevator’s light go down as everyone leaves, and the dude tells me to put on my sneakers to got for a little nightly run before bed.
I put on my running clothes, smiling. I am happy and excited for the next day.

Go where you are respected, where you are appreciated, where you are wanted. You gain nothing by sticking it out and swallowing any mistreatment. But by walking away from those experiences you teach yourself that you are worthy of respect, of love, of quality relationships; and you also teach others that when they do not mirror the same level of respect, their access to you is revoked, end of story.
