Katharina Gerlach was born in Germany in 1968. She and her three younger brothers grew up in the middle of a forest in the heart of the Luneburgian Heather. After romping through the forest with imagination as her guide, the tomboy learned to read and disappeared into magical adventures, past times or eerie fairytale woods.

She didn’t stop at reading. During her training as a landscape gardener, she wrote her first novel, a manuscript full of a beginner’s mistakes. Fortunately, she found books on Creative Writing and soon her stories improved. For a while, reality interfered with her writing but after finishing a degree in forestry and a PhD in Science she returned to her vocation. Sorry for the delay in answering. I was at the Leipzig Book Fair.

The answer is quite simple. I've got a "spare" family in Scotland which I've been visiting for three weeks every year for 16 years. Then, I spent a full year with them. I love the country, the culture, and the many strange creatures in their folk lore. So I tried to put as many as I could into this book. Naturally, I've learned a lot about writing in the years since I wrote "Scotland's Guardians", but I still think it is an entertaining read for those who like the Highlands and Lowlands.(less)

Bloghop

Yes, it’s that time of the year again, the next bloghop is due. This time we’ve got a new (and much nicer, don’t you think?) logo, made by Juneta Key one of the bloghop’s regular authors. For the longest time I didn’t know what to write about until a few days back, I realized that not everybody wakes quite the same way as I do. Naturally, the names of the kids are all made up (to protect their...
