MILLER, LEWIS B. (1861–1933). Lewis B. Miller, teacher and author, was born on Blocker Creek, Cooke County, Texas, on May 27, 1861, the son of Henry and Lurilla (Osborn) Miller. In 1881 he graduated from Add-Ran College, where he taught Latin and Greek from 1881 to 1884. He taught school for two years and did office work in St. Louis for the Burlington and Big Four railways from 1888 to 1891. In 1892 Miller began working for the Crowell Publishing Company in Springfield, Ohio, and from 1894 to 1933 wrote adventure stories for magazines. Among his longer works were The White River Raft (1910), Saddles and Lariats (1912), and Pike's Peak or Bust (1922). In 1904 he homesteaded land in Oklahoma. He never married.
