My academic background is in history and I have always found myself looking beyond facts and dates and the formal presentation of history, trying to peer at the people and their lives, asking how they felt, how they reacted, how they became embroiled in and/or navigated the events we now read about in the history books or learn about in museums. I like to look at the sources we use to understand history, which are so often filled with bias and written by victors, and disseminate them, trying to grab at the human stories, the feuds, the character flaws, the forbidden desires which sit behind. For me, it doesn't get much more inspiring than that!(less)
