By day, Lauricia Matuska is a mild-mannered teacher of high school literature and creative writing. By night she is a clandestine writer, fighting battles against time and responsibility to steal precious moments in which to compose the next pages of her current novel-in-progress. She first discovered the realm of fantasy by traveling with Lucy through the wardrobe to Narnia. Since then, she has established dual-residency between that world and this one, and currently serves as an ambassador to contemporary youth and young adults. The Healer's Rune is the first novel in her Ceryn Roh trilogy.

When I am truly blocked, I divide my available time between reading stories in my favorite genre that I know are well written and reading how-to books about writing, especially about plotting. I also spend a lot of time brainstorming on paper: clustering, writing questions and answers in a flow-chart style, and drawing different plot diagram possibilities are my go-to techniques.(less)

I love the sense of grandeur and awe that an amazing fantasy setting can produce. I will forever be entranced by well-described castles, elven tree cities, dwarven mountain catacombs, and dragon eyries, as well as some of the more spectacular magical elements those locations can contain. Henry David Thoreau
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...”
