Thank you for visiting my Goodreads Author page! Whether you're new to my books, or familiar with the kind of stories I write, it's lovely to see you here. My latest (May 2019) is The Girl Puzzle – a story of Nellie Bly. It's based on the true story of a brave and ambitious young woman who put her life at risk to break barriers and gain a foothold in the male-dominated newspaper industry of late nineteenth century New York. I’m huge fan of Nellie Bly – a complex and contradictory heroine if ever there was one - and I can't wait to introduce her to you!

If you follow me on Goodreads, then you'll be among the first to hear all my book related news. Connecting with readers is very important and so here are some more ways for us to keep in touc

If you are in the same boat, don't do what I did. Find craft books or writing prompts on the internet. Take a course. Find a local writing group. Write. The biggest thing I've learned is that writing is a craft. We learn every time we try to write something new - whether it's about point of view, or dialogue or pacing or whatever - and writing is a journey. Put grand aspirations and dreams of publication on one side. Do the work!!(less)

Kate is on page 121 of 371 of When the Stars Go Dark: So interesting to read this. I've been a fan of McLain's historical novels (Paris Wife, Circling the Sun, Love and Ruin) but this is a thriller and I am LOVING it. Her writing is just so, so good and the story has me completely sucked in.

The Girl Puzzle by Kate Braithwaite
"Excellent!

This historical fiction piece seems almost more history than fiction. It’s an interesting take on a famous character, nicely paced, and an altogether excellent read."

“In the schoolroom with my brother’s tutor I remember being taught the words of Cardinal Richelieu, words from another time and another country, but no less apposite here: ‘Although in the course of ordinary cases justice requires authenticated proof, it is not the same with those that affect the state.”
