I have dedicated my life to understanding and exploring the experience of being fully alive (EBFA), as well as the sensations that give rise to it, including: passion, intuition, receptivity, playfulness, and self-transcendence. As a University of Arizona psychologist, I have studied the relationship of the EBFA with health, well-being, and creativity. For more than two decades, I have brought together and mentored free spirits who, like me, recognize the importance of the EBFA as both a source of motivation and a guiding force in their lives.

The EBFA is a central theme in everything I have written. The Chanter’s Guide details the healing properties of the EBFA and explains how the practice of chanting can facilitate this kind of transforma

It is pushing its way out of me with increasing urgency. I can only imagine that this is what labor might feel like.

Sometimes, I don't exactly know the nature of the project when I start to write. I have written books without knowing the overall structure or having a chapter outline in place. One piece falls into place, and then it reveals what the next piece will be--or at least it provides hints. I often have to be patient and receptive as different components show themselves to me. I love that process because it has an element of suspense to it, much like opening up a present. You do not know what to expect, but there is the excitement of something new and potentially delightful coming into your life.

This heightens my receptivity in ways that allow for the flow of creative ideas. I think the most effective way to deal with writer's block is to prevent it in the first place. Writing, like all creative experiences, is a dynamic interplay of total receptivity and total focus. For me, it has simply been a matter of understanding my own rhythms. Mornings are my preferred writing times because I wake up in an extremely receptive state, with an open mind and an open heart. That is when my writing just flows most naturally and effortlessly.(less)

“At its deepest level, creativity is not about building a better mousetrap. It's about freeing the mouse.”

More of Victor's books…
“If you allow yourself to experience the present moment, you will discover that it does not get better than this Paradise is here and now, waiting for you to arrive, to accept, to surrender, and to enjoy.”
Victor Shamas, The Way of Play: Reclaiming Divine Fun & Celebration

“Acceptance is an important part of serenity. It is not enough, however, simply to accept the things we cannot change. For me, serenity comes from not having any investment in the outcome. If I am genuinely serene, then it will not matter to me whether things change or stay the same. Either way, I choose to be happy.”
Victor Shamas, The Chanters Guide: Sacred Chanting as a Shamanic Practice

“The world is perfect, and at the same time, it is in a constant state of unfolding. This is also true for you and me. Our quest for enlightenment is really just a re-connection with something that already exists in us.”
Victor Shamas

“Nothing in the universe is impermeable to the flow of love.”
Victor Shamas, The Chanters Guide: Sacred Chanting as a Shamanic Practice

“I have spent much of my adult life trying to figure out how to experience holiness, and now I know that the struggle to figure things out is antithetical to the experience. You simply relax into holiness the way you would a warm bath.”
Victor Shamas, The Chanters Guide: Sacred Chanting as a Shamanic Practice

“Play is a sacred act. When we are playing, the essence of all creation flows freely through us. We are expressing our true nature and connecting with the very core of our existence. Nothing is more spiritual than that.”
Victor Shamas

“Play is my Way. Fun is my destiny. Love and joy are my religion.”
Victor Shamas

“When we 'lose ourselves' in play, we find something greater--the nameless, formless, and mysterious essence of all creation.”
Victor Shamas, The Way of Play: Reclaiming Divine Fun & Celebration
