Early on, I was part of a small critique group that helped hone my writing skills in a "safe" environment. I learned to take criticism, to analyze my writing from different angles, and to brainstorm. That was the best---those brainstorming sessions.

I would also say to let people know that you are a writer--but don't go into detail about your story. Hold the vision inside a bit to let it percolate and strengthen. Telling your story dilutes the impetus to keep pushing ahead with the writing of it and may make you stall out. (I realized this through trial and error.)

Best wishes to all aspiring writers. It's a fantastic, consuming creative journey...(less)

Julian -- a gold mining town that went from boom to bust in the 1870s is now a lovely little tourist town. This new story titled - Familiar Stranger in Clear Springs -- Clear Springs is my version of Julian. Although I prefer to keep to a truer historical setting, I found it hard to verify certain dates and historical facts about Julian despite the number of research books I used. Hence, to be safe and not upset the descendants of one of my favorite places, I chose to invent the town of Clear Springs. I don't have a cover for the book yet, and I am anxious to see what the art department at Harlequin comes up with. I am usually very happy with my covers from them. The book will be released December 2015!(less)

“Just the knowledge that a good book is waiting one at the end of a long day makes that day happier.”
Kathleen Norris

“...I've made it my business to observe fathers and daughters. And I've seen some incredible, beautiful things. Like the little girl who's not very cute - her teeth are funny, and her hair doesn't grow right, and she's got on thick glasses - but her father holds her hand and walks with her like she's a tiny angel that no one can touch. He gives her the best gift a woman can get in this world: protection. And the little girl learns to trust the man in her life. And all the things that the world expects from women - to be beautiful, to soothe the troubled spirit, heal the sick, care for the dying, send the greeting card, bake the cake - allof those things become the way we pay the father back for protecting us...”

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright

“Why do you always refer to vehicles as she?

Because they can be temperamental and expensive and sometimes difficult to start, but every man wants one.”
Beverly Long, Running for Her Life

“Every song has a composer, every book has an author, every car has a maker, every painting has a painter, and every building has a builder. So it isn't irrational to take this simple logic a little further and say that nature must have had a Maker. It would be irrational to believe that it made itself.”
