Oddly enough, I've had a few brushes with dead bodies in the past. A poor young man had drowned himself in Mirror Lake on the OSU campus and I felt myself drawn to the deep end of the pond. Didn't know why until he rose to the surface a few days later. Some years after that, I happened to come up to a railroad crossing immediately after a child had bee run over on the tracks. I had no idea what had happened then, but I developed a screaming headache. A decade later, I rented an apartment a stone's throw away from that crossing with no ill effects.

I've finally rewired my brain for reading, wasn't able to do anything but audiobooks for the longest time. Just finished Packing for Mars while listening to The Mysterious Island. Since we're really coming up on Halloween reading, I'm thinking of starting Jeff Strand's latest Bring Her Back.

Now that I've finished the third book of Arcanum Faire, I am teaching myself to write faster. I am working on converting a screenplay I had to abandon into a novella and allowing myself only a few months to get a finished product. After that, I have another novel that I am concurrently researching and outlining. It is still in the Arcanum Faire universe but set in another Ohio city.

Writer's block is not as much a problem for me as having periods of my brain screaming obscenities at me that make it difficult to work. Depression is a foul-mouthed bitch. I usually put in 15-30 minutes of God-like control of a Civ 5 planet and my brain is focused enough to get back to writing.

I spent my youth in Middle Earth, but I did pretty much all I could in my fevered imagination. I think now I would go to Stasheff's Gramyre where one can have wizards, witches, starships and snarky robot steeds.
