The Cambion was pure fun. I had completed my first book, The Second Son, and was looking for an idea for another book. My wife and I, with our teenaged son, were visiting Gettysburg and took a ghost tour to the Haunted Orphanage. As soon as we stepped into the building, my wife felt someone tug here hair. She blamed our son, but it kept happening. The final time, I saw her head jerk. The tour guide then told us about the ghost of a small boy who liked to play tricks, the most recent of which was pulling hair.
I pulled from my box of "what ifs" and The Cambion was born.

Well. that's a good question. If you mean, where do I get my ideas, the world is full of them. I always ask myself "what if."
If you mean, how do I get the energy to sit down at my computer, that's
an entirely different issue. Sometimes, after twelve hours in the ER, I have to really force myself. Other times, I can't stay away from a plot line and will get up at 3:00 a.m. to write.
I enjoy writing and find it exciting. That's all the inspiration I need.

Unfortunately, I'm currently working on three (or is it four) projects. I used to worry about where I would get an idea for another book. Now I worry about where I will get the time to develop all my ideas.
My next book, The Second Son, will be published in the next few months. My most active project is "The Corner of Fogg and Night" inspired by the Benjamin Wilson house in Savannah, Georgia. I'm also working on "The Search for Crème Brulee" about a man who learns about the important things in life. I'm working on a sequel to The Cambion and a prequel to The Second Son. I'm also developing a story about a character from my childhood. OMG, that's six projects!

I can only pass on the advice given me my Michael Palmer. NEVER GIVE UP!
Being a writer can be discouraging but you have to keep going. Sometimes, you have to adjust your expectations. If you remember that you are always writing because you like to write, you're way ahead of the game.

There are two big advantages to being a writer. First, I am more tuned in to the world. I notice thinks more and experience things more. It certainly beats just letting life pass you by.
Secondly, I have an increased control over my world. The big advantage of fictional writing is that you can make ANYTHING happen. Its great!

I've never experienced writers block. I get stumped sometimes on a plot line, but I can usually fix that. I find not thinking about a problem is the best way to resolve it. Sooner or later, it comes to me.
My main problem is time. I need much more time to work on my current projects.
