Vicki Wilkerson That evening he called and said that I needed to pick up the script at his house, so I hurried over to find the door ajar. Hesitantly, I entered and slowly walked down the dark hall until I saw steam seeping out the bathroom door.
Vicki Wilkerson This may sound strange, but I'd travel to the world Charles Frazier created in Cold Mountain--the part that wasn't in the crosshairs of the Civil War--the idyllic Southern countryside in the North Carolina mountains, where life was simple, yet difficult; peaceful, yet bordered by the war; pastoral, yet dangerous. The juxtaposition of these slices of life would make one live more fully in the moment, seeing all that one possesses and--at the same time--all that one is poised to lose.
Vicki Wilkerson Well, I'm currently reading Mary Alice Monroe's The Beach House, but the rest of my reading list this summer will be determined by what I am reviewing for the Charleston Post & Courier. My personal list will be limited because I've got two more books in the Summerbrook Series coming out this year, so I need to be writing more than reading.
Vicki Wilkerson The answer to this question is fun. When I was in middle school, we had an end-of-the-year dance, and on the last song, a tall, handsome boy (whom I had never seen before) asked me to dance to "Nights in White Satin." I never forgot that dance...or that boy. I went on to date lots of guys in high school and beyond, married, divorced, dated some more, but I never forgot my mystery dancer. After years of heartache, I married again; it was someone from high school that I'd had a crush on 36 years before! Years later, he told me the same story--that he'd danced with a "pretty girl" at that same dance, and he'd never forgotten her. I had married that boy who had danced into my heart over 43 years ago when I was only thirteen! As you might imagine, "Nights in White Satin" is our favorite song. Hey! After seeing our story in words, I think I WILL write a novel about it!
Vicki Wilkerson I am a keen observer of people and all that is around me. I see settings everywhere I go, and I am noting ideas for characters and stories all the time.
Vicki Wilkerson I am currently editing the last two books in The Summerbrook Series. They are completely written and almost ready to be published.
Vicki Wilkerson Read, read, read! And make notes about the way your favorite authors handle text and story.
Vicki Wilkerson I love to meet my readers and talk to them about my books.
Vicki Wilkerson I have the opposite of writer's block. Sometimes I have to try to shut off all the stories and characters that are running through my head.
Vicki Wilkerson Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, of course, is my favorite fictional couple! I used to assign Pride and Prejudice when I taught seniors at a public high school.
Vicki Wilkerson I live in a small, Southern town and see how people sometimes judge others on superficial issues that say nothing about who they really are. Being the romantic that I am, I wanted to explore how two people could be perfect for one another, but may not appear to be suited for one another by the closed-minded society around them. That's where April and Bullworth were born.
