Wayland Smith I never know where I get my idea, or very rarely at least. Most of them just sort of pop into my head at some point, or I get a line stuck on repeat that won't leave me alone until I do something with it.
Wayland Smith I don't really have a summer list, per se. I have multiple reading challenges that I participate in, and I'm working through all of those.
Wayland Smith I'm from the government. I'm here to help.
Wayland Smith The DC Comics Universe and find a way to interact with/support some of my favorite heroes.
Wayland Smith 1. No, it's a novel, it just has some great cover art from the amazing Sam Kennedy. Look him up on the net, he's fantastic.

2. I'm one of several "Wayland Smith"s as far as I can tell. I actually have at least one book on my author page that isn't mine, which I keep meaning to report.

Thanks for the interest.
Wayland Smith Usually, I just get an idea, and usually mull it over for a bit. It's not usually some big "Oh, that's it! The next great story!" It's more like, "Hmm... what if..."

In terms of actually making myself sit down and do it, it's just discipline. If you want to be a writer, you have to write. It really is that simple. Apply butt to chair, fingers to keyboard, and go to it.
Wayland Smith The satisfaction when you I look back at something I wrote and think, "Ya know, that's really not bad." I'm not in love with my own work, and a lot of the time I see things that need to be fixed, but when there's a scene or a quote or a phrase I got right, it's a great feeling.
Wayland Smith I am rotating between several projects: my second book about a team of superhuman mercenaries (first should be out soon); a book about an old hero getting a new team together; an urban fantasy about a man who made a deal with mystical forces and can't remember what happens while he's "away"; a zombie novel; and a story that's kind of Weird Western with clashing mythos. And that's not all of it. I like to keep busy.
Wayland Smith Write. It really is that simple. I won't say write every day, because I know life happens, but do your best to set some kind of goals and hit them. Then, if you do, reward yourself with something. Positive reinforcement is good.

Keep writing, seek out people to give you honest feedback on your work, and LISTEN to that feedback. If everyone who reads your story says the first chapter doesn't work, there's likely something to that.
Wayland Smith I have been very, very fortunate in that I've never had it. Also, I almost always have several works in progress at once, novels to short stories, so if one isn't going where I want, I can move to another.
