Absolutely unintentional. When Nellie herself goes there, she calls it Ceylon. Excellent catch!

Hey Steven. That's ten kinds of lovely to hear - I'll take questions like this one everyday!
I'm closing in on the third Colossus book right now, the first half of which runs concurrent with Four Emperors. I don't have a date yet, but it will definitely be out this year.
Like you, I'm a sucker for good Roman novels - Colleen McCullough, Steven Saylor, Simon Scarrow, all joy, And every book Mary Beard writes.
One thing you can always do for authors you like - reviews. Here, on Amazon, on Audible, wherever you get books. They really do make difference, and good, bad, or indifferent, authors always appreciate reviews.
Cheers, and thanks!

Hi Shannon! Sorry I missed this when it came in. But the answer has changed since then! Yes, both The Master Of Verona and Colossus: Stone & Steel are available as audiobooks. The first is available everywhere, the latter exclusively on Audible. I'm recording Voice Of The Falconer right now. Hope that's of interest!

Robert Hutchinson's THE SPANISH ARMADA
A.E.W. Mason's FIRE OVER ENGLAND
Martin Stephen's A DESPERATE REMEDY
A re-read of Alison Weir's QUEEN ISABELLA
A re-read of Stephen Greenblatt's WILL IN THE WORLD
All of it research, hopefully also fun.

Thanks so much! (Sorry I didn't see this question until now).
The best advice I can give is 1) Know your ending, and 2) Leave yourself some space on how you get there. I know many writers who have it all planned out - and with historical fiction, history itself is a wonderful map. But I like to leave myself room to explore and discover while I write. There are always gems in the research that are waiting to be found, polished, and revealed. Whenever I'm bored by a piece I'm writing, I know I have to find another way to tell the story, because if I'm bored, the reader is sure to be. So know what story you want to tell, but give yourself latitude on how you tell it.

Hi Jane. First, please call me David.
Both of the next books are written, but they need heavy editing work. I actually wrote the fourth book first, then at the urging of my agent went back to flesh out the story with the books you're now reading. Naturally, as I got deeper into the characters and the history, the story evolved. So I need to now rewrite the books 3 & 4 to reflect the growth of the characters in books 1 & 2. And book 4 won't be the end of the series. I have at least two more to write after that.
If it seems like I'm hedging my bets on a release date, it's because I am. I'm working on three new novels at present, and will be out of commission this summer, which means I'll spend the fall finishing whichever of those novels captures my attention. Only then will I turn to retooling Wail Of The Fallen. So, hopefully, it will be out sometime in 2016.
I'm so glad you're enjoying Stone & Steel. I really cannot wait for the brothers to encounter the Roman who will change their lives, and have his life changed in return. But that has to wait for a bit. This whole series is building to a single climax - I knew the ending before I knew anything else. But we have miles to go before we sleep. So there's lots to look forward to!
Cheers!
