My latest book, 'A Special Delivery' is a big family drama about the Bradys of Dublin, who discover a baby in their outdoor nativity scene on Christmas Eve. I love writing about family relationships, and the complexities and secrets that often go with the territory, and it was the teenage characters in this book that I developed first, and the rest of the story unfolded after that.

A book about a faded rockstar. I'm doing some very enjoyable research into the 80s and 90s, and listening to loads of dodgy songs from bands that faded (mercifully) into obscurity.

Persevere. Very few people get published on their attempt. Rejection, rewriting, starting again - it's all part of the process. Take the time to learn your craft through reading, writing every day and joining writing groups. Find ways of reaching readers through blogs and online publishing.

Being able to earn a living doing something I love is a privilege, and I remind myself of that whenever I'm having a bad day!

This is a tricky one because you can't force something along, so I try to park whatever it is that's not working for me and move on to something else for a while. Time and distance can sometimes help. But if I really can't get over a particular stumbling block then it might be telling me it's time to move on!
