Teretha Houston Dan Brown said there’s no such thing as writer’s block. I’m glad he said it. Now maybe I don’t sound like a jerk when I say it here. I make no claims of being on Dan’s level, but I find it’s better for me if I don’t try to be both critic and writer in the early drafts. I just hop inside the skin of a character, write what I see through his or her eyes without censoring it, bad grammar and profanity included.
Teretha Houston Step one: write.
Step two through ten: edit.
Editing is where the magic happens.
Teretha Houston The kernels that grew into the thriller, NOWHERE TO LAND, came from two flights I was on that were more than a little nerve-racking. One aircraft was struck by lightning in midair. The cabin lights went out then popped back on. The pilots were ho-hum about it, but I didn’t expect them to come on the PA and say, “You have five minutes to get right with Jesus.”

On another flight, I was sitting in the window seat next to one of the engines and heard it wind down, then became dead silent in midair. A twin engine plane. One engine dead and the other one was dying too. If you read the book, you’ll know this tiny part of the story actually happened.

With my luck, I think I’m going to catapult myself from place to place like Wile-E-Coyote from the Road Runner cartoon.
