I haven't any particular books on my summer reading list but these long, hot summer days (only joking!!!) I shall probably go for books that will keep me absorbed and wanting to read on to the last page, perhaps authors like Elizabeth Jane Howard, Melvyn Bragg or Rosie Thomas. But if a book catches my interest, summer or winter, I shall read it as I'm always on the look-out for new authors

Mrs Lucas and Georgie Pillson from E.F. Benson's Mapp and Lucia novels, they're just such a gloriously funny couple though vaguely touching, too, as there's genuine affection between them - so long as Georgie never forgets he's meant to be Lucia's disciple!

My most recent book is 'The Gypsy's Tale', which is a stand alone book and also the third and final part of the Loxley trilogy, so I'd have to go right back to my first thoughts of Loxley, the first of the three. It grew from there though I'd no idea at the time, it was going to turn itself into three books!

The things I see around me that engage my interest. As a writer of historical novels, I'm very lucky to live in Derbyshire which has both spectacular scenery and a very colourful historical background

Despite rejections, believe in yourself and never give up. Keep re-editing your own work, most writing can be improved by returning to it after a period of absence.
