Greek Mythology, video game lore, history books, my general mood at the time, and a particular song from the Elder Scrolls game "Oblivion" just made the beginning and ending of the book pop into my head. After that, it was just a matter of actually putting it to paper.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for the N64. No kidding, I used to write all sorts of stories that would continue the plot in various ways when I was a kid. When I wanted to start "publishing" them, my dad had me email Nintendo to ask for permission. He also made sure I added that I was 7 years old. They emailed back the nicest cease and desist letter I've ever seen. 20 years later, I still have the letter. Oddly enough that made me want to write more Zelda stories, but the seed was planted in my head that I wanted to create something all my own and publish it.

A potential continuation/spin-off for my initial book "Solace". Probably centered on one of the supporting characters.

Just write whatever interests you. Don't write for others, do it for yourself and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

Best part about writing is the challenge of creating something unique and interesting. The feeling you get when everything all comes together in your head and then on paper is a very satisfying feeling.

The world of the Witcher, The Continent, for sure. Granted, it's a little...hectic there, but there is so much underlying history teased that it captures my attention. The obvious answer is to be a Witcher as well, but would want to offer my services to protect expeditions that seek out lost knowledge or history.
