For me, the actual writing part, is very enjoyable. I like writing a novel, and when a reader engages with you, gives some feedback, whatever it may be, that is also a highly enjoyable part of being a writer.

I'm no expert, and can only speak from personal experience. At this stage, I've only published two novels. As a start, trying to enjoy the process of writing, and what you are actually writing, learning along the way, and having fun, seems to make sense. There is a lot more to it, obviously, including setting time aside to write, developing important skills, and a whole lot of other things. I've found for me, if it's more fun than hard work, it helps to keep you inspired and to write more.

On a practical level, thinking about something - it could be trivial or profound, then getting a good night's sleep and waking up early, to see what has developed when you face that blank page first thing in the morning.

A combination of places. Travelling to the UK certainly inspired me, but I can remember standing and watering my garden at home, thinking, and having ideas come to me.
