Tai Manivong The idea for Crimson, came from a picture my best friend drew. It was of a scruffy dog by two baby dragons. I had been talking with her about wanting to write a book and when she showed me her drawing the idea came to life. The first draft only took me a month to write. That is how inspired I was with the idea. I was so excited to be creating this new world, with new species and an epic adventure. I used my own two dogs as more inspiration watching how they acted and incorporating their personalities in to the characters in the novel. Two years later, after several rounds of editing, revisions, heartache and frustration Crimson was finally finished. Now, I am working on book two.
Tai Manivong When I am struggling with creative ideas for my novels I discuss my ideas with my friends or my thirteen-year-old daughter. When I talk about what I am writing it leads to more ideas. I also take a step back from writing and work on editing other pages that I have written. I go over the pages and see where I can add descriptions, dialogue, or build in character personalities. I ask myself questions with the comment feature in word to generate more ideas later. For example, if my character is in the mountains, I might ask, what plants are growing there? Then I can add some descriptions of the world. If I am still having trouble I go on a nature walk to clear my mind.
