We are at the great masquerade at Burlington House in honour of the peace between England and France in 1814. A group of ladies have made a grand entrance dressed as the Nine Muses and have since selected a dancing partner from among the gentlemen present. It is midnight. Thalia has drawn Clio away from her partner.
"The carriage is outside if you still wish to leave early," Thalia whispered.
"I do, and you?"
"I think I'll stay awhile."
I just had to know what happened when Thalia went back to the party. This led to my novel, The Murmur of Masks that eventually was published before Perception & Illusion. Because both novels were finished by then, i was able to ensure there were no spoilers so they can be read in any order.

I thought a lot about this and in the end decided for Nathaniel Bonner and Elizabeth Middleton from Sara Donati's Wilderness series because their relationship has stood the test of time. In a tumultuous series that covers over thirty years and six books, they remain loving, faithful, committed to and respectful of one another.

Hi Carol,
English is my native language and I am completely fluent in German, both written and oral. I get by in French - I read it better than I speak it.

It varies. As a writer of historical fiction, my time is divided between writing and research so I always have a fallback. But generally my rule is to write something everyday whether I feel like it or not.

It is generally a small trigger. I keep a notebook of possible plots and story lines as they occur to me. I like to explore what happens after the first happy end.

It was a throw-away line in another book, Perception & Illusion that will be released next year and made me wonder, 'what happened then?'
