By learn the craft, I mean learn how to write. Yes, this is all the boring stuff: spelling, grammar, sentence construction ... all the way through to higher level aspects such as plot construction. And NEVER STOP LEARNING. You can never know all there is to know and you will always improve.
By write, I mean write. Yes, just write. Write, write, write. NEVER STOP WRITING. One day you'll look at what you've written and say, "Hey, that's not bad." Then, KEEP WRITING.

The best thing about being a writer is the ability to create an entire world in someone else's mind. It's also fascinating to think that each reader's rendering of that world is different, based on that person's unique view of the world and their personal experiences.

Certainly, getting away from the story for a while helps. I also like to start reading from the beginning to sort of "reload" my brain to get in tune with how my reader is experiencing the story and that gives me inspiration about how the unwritten scenes should play out. Also, the trick about forcing yourself to always write at least 3 pages, no matter what, usually pushes me past any block.
