Katie Robles Katie lifted the warm, moist, dark brownie to her lips and bit. It was a black bean brownie.
Katie Robles I would stay at a bed and breakfast in the Shire; take long strolls down the lanes, eat food from the local gardens, and feel tall.
Katie Robles Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. It's very satisfying when they finally get together. I know I'm giving the same answer as 50 million other women, but Austin did something magical with them.
Katie Robles When you're paddling through stagnant waters with a dinky plastic shovel and then the creativity current starts to flow...the dam breaks and ideas are gushing out and it's a magical rush.
Katie Robles The same way I get inspired to cook: I want to eat. Sometimes I love cooking, sometimes it just needs to be done. Same with writing: sometimes I love it, sometimes it just needs to be done.
Katie Robles I knew I needed to lose weight, but I was dreading it. A friend and I were complaining about how hard it was to exercise with small children and how tired we were, and I made a joke about using our husbands to seduce us to bed on time: exercise and a good nights' sleep! Suddenly I wasn't dreading the thought of exercise and I thought "Hmm, what other aspects of weight loss could use a positive spin? Why can't weight loss be fun?"
Katie Robles The sequel...probably called More Sex, Soup, and Two Fisted Eating.
Katie Robles Just start writing, then keep on writing. Set reasonable deadlines for yourself and stick to them. Celebrate every victory along the way.
Analyze as you read: if you loved it, what made the writing so good? If it was poorly written, where and how did the author lose you? Then do the good and avoid the bad in your own writing.
Edit, edit, revise, revise. Be brave: it takes courage to share your writing with others.
Katie Robles I duct tape myself to my chair until I've pounded out a rough draft on the keyboard, no matter how crappy that first draft is. Exercise helps too (the opposite of taping oneself to a chair). Exercise gets your blood flowing which gets your brain's creative fluids flowing. If I exercise and still have no idea what to write, out comes the duct tape.
