M.T. McGuire Amazingly, although I've only been poking at it, I appear to have written about 1,000 words during editing over the course of today and yesterday. Have had to down tools and finally format the properly edited paperback versions of books 3 and 4 of the series. It's only been five months!

Cheers

Will Macmillan Jones I've just been munching along with small numbers whilst doing some paying work.

Oh, and I've been invited to submit stories to two anthologies. The horror one, fine, but the erotica? Errrrrrrr

Lexie Conyngham Work economically, make it the same story!

Will Macmillan Jones 'Write what you know' they say

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Would that be horrotica?

Lexie Conyngham Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Would that be horrotica?"

I think it probably would be. And best avoided.

message 559: by Tim (new)

Tim Wouldn't erotic horror just be error?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild Tim wrote: "Wouldn't erotic horror just be error?"

I like the way you're thinking!

message 562: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones That's 4103 in the last 2 days now.

message 563: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Just slightly ahead of myself to allow for Granite Noir this weekend - I'll probably come out of it so depressed that I shan't write for a week.

message 564: by David (new)

David Hadley Missed a couple of days writing earlier in the week to have fun with plumbing instead.

Yesterday and today 600-odd words each.

message 565: by Jim (new)

Jim 1300 yesterday for Tallis, and today an article on sheep marketing

message 566: by Chris (new)

Chris Wright Made several coffees in a row (can't remember how many) and did 5230 words for a book that will be out in January. I wonder how many of those I'm going to cut during the editorial harvest lol

message 567: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones I even added a few hundred words on a blog, this morning.

I may need a quiet lie down.

message 568: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Blimey Will, I'll have to go and look at that. ;-)

Well done everyone. Nothing yesterday as I had my writers' group round. Made the mistake of reading them something I hadn't edited so they pointed out all the mistakes that I'd already spotted. Won't do that again, it was a waste of their time and a good opportunity. I haven't edited anything much for weeks though, I've been trying to crack on.

Were they about the Spanish Inquisition?

I would have liked to have gone to this but only found out about it earlier this week! Who are you seeing Lexie?

No but they were about three things, no, four things, no FIVE things ... etc.

So far seen Denzil Meyrick and Kate London talking to Stuart McBride re being ex police officers, Doug Johnstone and Sarah Ward talking allegedly about setting, though they wandered completely (but it was still good), a conversation with Stuart again and one with Chris Brookmyre, then today a discussion between Chris, Doug, Kate and Kati someone Finnish about planning versus seat of pants writing. Three more tomorrow!

It sounds brilliant, and quite focussed on writing rather than folks who are famous for other things flogging their spin-off books. ;-) hope the weather up there is nicer than here though.

I haven't written anything yet, today, but I did take some eyebomb photos for the new non fiction book.

Cheers

Well, it is a crime fiction festival! Actually, it's my first one so I wasn't sure what to expect. Liked it when a guy asking a question described himself as being in the Highland League of writers (meaning people like me, indie ebook types)! I wonder how many of us sitting innocently in the audience are closet crime writers, too?

Ah ha, yes, that would explain it. I am thinking of trying Norcon - which is a sci fi and fantasy festival that happens in Norwich (not far from me).

message 577: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Is that a writing festival or one of those conventions where everyone dresses up as Cybermen or Klingons?

M.T. McGuire Lexie wrote: "Is that a writing festival or one of those conventions where everyone dresses up as Cybermen or Klingons?"

Bit of both. ;-)

I still haven't done any work on my book but I wrote a 1k blog post. So that's nice.

Jim even nicer when you attach a link ;-)

message 581: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt Some of my brain cells came back to work today - it has been very nice. Tomorrow I may actually write.

There is this line I have since the original draft, and it still is the center of this scene (no, not one of my darlings which need killing).

message 583: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Yeh c'mon, at least give us the phrase. :-)

Pam Baddeley Nothing in the last few days sadly, but I did manage quite a lot of rewriting of one chapter before that.

Okay. It isn't QUITE in its final form, and you are not situated, but here it is:

Storr leaned back against the pillows, comfortably relaxed against the side of Cecily's leg, his arm around her waist, but silent, giving Andrew time to think. Cecily stroked her husband's hair, wrapping a curl about her finger.
The gesture was so intimate it made Andrew uncomfortable.

message 586: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ I've not managed to do any writing for ages, and still trying to get to 10,000 words! However, I've organised my last NaNo project into Scrivener as well (definitely going to get a proper copy of that although I wish they would hurry up with the Android app!) and I found a folder of story attempts I'd made when I was younger. Some are awful but there are a few that might be useful in the future!

message 587: by Lexie (last edited Feb 27, 2017 01:52AM) (new)

Lexie Conyngham Done today's allocation of writing but still have to do the day's allocation of typing/editing an old stand-alone for production later this year.

I love looking back at my old ideas - I bought an A4 blue leatherbound book when I was about ten, just before secondary school (a very long time ago), and began putting ideas in it. It's a big book and still not full, referred to fondly as 'The Blue Book', and I still add to it and browse through it for ideas - though of course some of them are completely dud!

message 588: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Lot of house maintenance over the weekend, so ony a few hundred words

But I've had the germ of an idea for a High Fantasy, which I swore I'd never write...

message 589: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire Done a fair bit of research on the eyebombing book not much else happening right now though.

Dragons, medieval civilisation and women going into battle with three pot lids covering their bits beside men in full armour! Phnark.

message 594: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire And with magic and wizards ... mustn't forget those.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild So that where all my pot lids keep going to!

message 596: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham Ah, righty-ho. Every day's a school day! (anyone got any really large saucepans?)

message 597: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton Hell, yes! ;)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) Actually the highest High Fantasy doesn't have any women in it at all, really cf LOTR :) Pot lids probably still feature though

Not unless it has a habit of wandering off into other people's narratives.

This one just appeared out of nowhere when the protagonist opened her garden gate several hundred words ago and has been hanging around ever since.

message 600: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones Mind you I was in Leekes dept store the other day and saw a set of saucepans costing £ 250 for five.

These High Fantasy girls must be loaded.
