i agree with you.. but in the end it says that she loved her husband and she was devoted to him like she was to Willoughby.. What do you think?
I think that Edward was strong...in being able to hold true to his promise to the woman he originally promised he would marry. I thought Colonel Brandon was definitely always in love with Marianne, but in the end she settles for the man who loves her, as it seems many people do. Marianne's wildness is tamed by realizing that life isn't fiction, and she did in time come to love him, though I did feel like Austen really had work hard to make the ending what it was....
In regards to Marianne I think Willoughby broke her. When she put herself back together she wasn't the same person. I think who she became DID love the Colonel, but I also think the line "Marianne found her own happiness in forming his " to be highly suspect knowing that Jane Austen is the author of it. I think there is some subtle sarcasm in there.
With regards to Edward, I do think that he had many good qualities, but his major flaws were in his idleness, his weakness (and bad taste)in entering into a commitment to Lucy, and his recklessness with Elinor's heart in the beginning. He did overcome those flaws I believe by the end of the novel.
