Stephen King responds to the Stephenie Meyer/Twilight controversy

I am not the biggest fan of Stephen King's work as it just isn't my preferred type of reading, however I have a great deal of respect for anyone that is as talented as he is. I think anyone, fan or not, must admit that he is an exceptional writer. I have enjoyed a few of his books. I opened Twilight by Stephanie Meyer but it just couldn't grab my attention. In my opinion it is a terrible book.
His response was was great! I loved it.....and think I may just pick up one of his books again.

Well, this is funny and creative. Of course, Ms. Meyer's legion of young women-panting-for-undead-boyfriends don't have to worry. This is obviously NOT Stephen King in this video. Even the description on You Tube by the poster, "auraldemolition" says so: "This video is meant for entertainment purposes, and may not represent Mr. King's actual views."

He didn't address the criticism at all. His original comment was that Meyer "couldn't write worth a darn" and his rebuttal to that remark was specific to those Meyer fans who said King was merely jealous of her success-- which is obviously absurd, because SK has far outsold and out-awarded SM.
SK never explains specifically what he finds weak or inelegant or worthless about Meyer's prose style-- which is what I was hoping to hear. He's ducking his original point, probably because he wouldn't want to get into some dumb feud. (Guess you can't blame him). But if you're looking for a real rebuttal, this isn't it.

The ending bit when he says Twilight is "An Amazing Book" in a exaggerated, computerized voice several times in a row made me cringe for Stephnie Meyer. Poor Lady! It was just plain cruel. No writer deserves that kind of treatment or judgement from another writer. We already know he is an amazing writer so he does not need to shove his many accomplishments in our faces in this video. He did not need to make this childish video to prove his point. This video only made him sound like an arrogent jerk who needs to eat some humblepie. SHAME ON HIM!!!!

I am grateful to Stephanie Meyer for bring many JH girls into the library who wouldn't otherwise be there. When they have plowed through her books, they have figured out how great it is to loose yourself in a book. JK Rowling had the same effect. I am as sick of sparklepires as the next person, but I am so grateful for the book addicted readers Meyer has created.

Now, as a 14 year old girl, i used to love the TWILIGHT books. Before the movies screwed it up.
Though honestly, Meyer is an awful writer. Interesting story, yes.

Interesting. There's just something about Stephen King's sarcasm, especially toward the end, that just made me giggle. I'm not a big fan of Stephen King but the few books written by him that I have read were more enjoyable than the Twilight saga but everyone has different tastes so might as well leave it be.
