Two weird things have happened. First, Mia told us she's only been dating Adam for five months, yet her grandmother "is always sure to make maple fudge for him [on Christmas]". "Is always sure" implies that she's done it more than once. The second thing that bothers me is that I've just found a "Mia said." Either this book was originally written in 3rd person, Kim's name was Mia, or the author had a brain fart.

Skittles I never noticed that, but now that I went back and checked you're right, that is funny.

Lissa Glad to know it's not just my edition. Weird as. You'd expect these things to be picked up on considering how many people read the manuscript pre-publication, yes?

Skittles You would think so but look how many terribly edited books hit the shelves these days, and it seems to becoming a bit of an epidemic.

I just finished reading a book last week and I'm annoyed that whoever edited it didn't realize that an event happened over the course of like a page and was like a 10 minute interaction, but according to a page later it has been a couple of hours or more, it made absolutely no sense to me at all.

I think the editors are not working as hard as they used to.

Lissa It's not that editors aren't working as hard. It's actually a huge industry secret that authors don't have to accept editor changes. Though most of the time I see no reason why they shouldn't.

Skittles I did not know that, but it does make sense.
