The girl on the cover SO does not have a gap the size of a raisin between her front teeth. I love the cover, but I also like having accurate portrayals of the characters. Maybe I'm just being too picky. :-/

It cracks me up that Anna would rather have what her brother got for Christmas, Star Wars stuff and a rock polishing kit, instead of jewelry. My thoughts exactly. Obviously, I loved Star Wars growing up, but little known fact: I was also obsessed with rocks. Especially... SHINY ones.

Does anyone in this book have a simple last name? St Clair? Oliphant? Higgenbaum? Wasserstein? Saunderwick?

Lab partners, huh? Because that NEVER happens in YA novels. Geez, hot guy lab partners never happened to ME in High School. What the hell? I always got paired with nerdy girls. Well, mainly because I was one and that's who I always sat with. XD

I'll gouge my eye out with Sean's Darth Maul action figure if she sits with us every day. Oh my god! A Star Wars reference. Stephanie Perkins is my freaking hero.

Does every person who has an "ann" sound in their name have the nickname "banana"? Peter Panna-banana? Nope. Guess it doesn't work for everyone.

Lora Um . . . yeah. I don't think that the people in charge of the cover design are going to search for a girl that looks like that, and also I think that the author meant that to be just an exaggeration and not for it to be taken literally. I don't think there are many (if any) people with gaps that big. And if there are, I feel sorry for them.

Lyndsey I had a HUGE gap between my teeth before I had braces. I could definitely have fit a raisin turned sideways in there. That's how I imagined she meant it.

But they could have at least had her smirking without showing her teeth, maybe? I just always hate it when they don't at least try. If the cover model isn't going to look like the character then why even have a cover model? I know it's mostly about MARKETING, but it bothers me' that it always has to be about sellability (is that even a word? It is now.)

Lyndsey Maybe that's even why it's a touchy subject for me. I know what it's like and it drives me crazy that cover models have to be perfect with perfect teeth and hair, when you don't have to be perfect to be beautiful to someone. It just frustrates me. This whole perfection obsession.

Lyndsey And perfect skin?! How come models never have freckles, or beauty marks, or birthmarks? Those things can't be beautiful, too?

Okay, sorry. I'm just ranting.

I love "imperfections" :)

Lyndsey Right, Kim? I love it when characters have little physical "quirks", whether it's something they chose to have or not. It really makes them relatable and loveable, I think.

Agreed...that's why I'm biased against books with people on the cover...I take them off when I read them.

Lyndsey Yeah, I also like a bit of mystery sometimes. I don't always like to start a book with an image already in my head of how the characters look.
