Toni Morrison is not in this collection, but she has received the most consistent display of praise beyond any other writer in her peer group. They all call her some variation upon the "most literate writer in the English language". I find that almost as fascinating as I find sisterhood. They still read and write letters to one another. Their closeness imparts in me a certain joy and brother/son jealousy.

I love J. California Cooper and Vanity slices directly through my soul. I love Pearl Cleage and I now need to revisit my viewing of "Daughters of the Dust" with a new eye. I love Lorene Cary and will never see "black ice" the same again. I love Tina McElroya Ansa and seek to raise my young'n with no semblance of 'dem "ugly ways".

I love to hate women writers. Them and their clay cast descriptive rantings outshifting my best efforts. Their ability to channel an emotion into a focused number two pencil point and pierce your skin with it over and over again. Davida Adedjouma is love and word and woman.
