I'm completely hooked and I have to admit I teared up a bit in the first chapter.

Paul I am so glad you're enjoying it, Dawn. Justin is not your typical writer of zombie fiction. He's actually a literary writer--a nuanced and passionate storyteller who explores deeper levels of the human condition. But after a talk with his daughter (who was maybe Scarlet's age), he promises to write a story about a little girl. That promise became The Passage. You'll see his literary lean, and you'll probably notice him struggle to deal with the nuts and bolts of the genre, something that is new to him.

Paul In other words, he's sometimes awkward with action sequences and more comfortable with the internal landscapes of characters. This is the opposite of Dean Koontz--a fun study in craftsmanship.
