turns out the ending of waugh's "a handful of dust" really was a different story called "the man who read dickens" before he repurposed it there -- now i know why it felt tacked on! still, it's the best part of the whole thing, really, so i can understand why. :)

thrilled to find included may sinclair, and a fantastic story by b. traven!!!!! goddamn i love b. traven. not so sure about some of the argentinian author stories, so the five won't stick. pretty sure borges only liked the ones i do, anyway. :)

i thought i'd found a new author to be excited by when i read the second story in this book, only to discover it wasn't written by the person it's credited to. borges is blowing my mind again... am beginning a review to explain myself in more detail.

Ben Loory what's that you got over there...? looks tasty...

Harold I gave this a reread - Great Story but I was taken aback by the date of birth of the author. I reread the intro and (my edition was printed in 1976)found that stories were added after the original edition.

Michael I'll second Ben on that. What you got there Mo?

Maureen harold: yes, that's true. i'd be interested in finding a copy of the original publication to see what was part of the initial publication but from what i can tell from the copyright page, it'd be in spanish. the book was revised in 1965, and again in 1976 so even though my copy is from 1988, i suspect we have the same content in both our books.

michael: it's a wonderful little anthology -- i stumbled upon it in a used bookstore, and i'm very happy about it you should see if you can grab a copy online... http://www.amazon.com/Book-Fantasy-Jorge...
