I might be in, depending on the schedule. I think everybody should choose their own translation--I myself will never read any version but the silver-covered Montcrieff/Kilmartin, simply because I've read it twice already and as a result Proust only sounds "right" to me in that version, you know?

Schedule-wise, I could get more reading done in summer 2013 than any other time. But I've been meaning to take a third pass through ROTP (as I still think of it) for a few years now, so this might work for me.

Yes. Enright edited and cleaned up some of M and K's translation. The Vintage edition is the "definitive" one.

I don't have an interest in rereading ISOLT just yet, but this is a splendid idea, Proustitute. I'd love to peep in now and then to watch everyone's progress.

There are a few who will be reading it in the original French: I'll make a subgroup for these readers.

I think for the rest we should stick to the same translation to standardize the read-a-long. So, as much as I would hate to limit a Proust reading group, I'll say that the one I'll convene will be the English translation proposed here and/or the original French as I'm familiar with both.

If others want to start groups for other languages, that would be wonderful. Perhaps we could have each reading group linked up in some way over the course of the year.

I have the silver Vintage edition that I think reads beautifully (with all due respect to the Lost Time editions, I just love Remembrance of Things Past as the title). In other words, I'm in, if there's room.

There's certainly room. I just wanted a tentative head count before we begin in January.

I'm in, but no way I'm reading the Moncrieff again. I'm going to either read it in French or read the Lydia Davis one, though I might go back to Moncrieff for the other volumes. It's just that if I'm going to reread it, I'd like to read a translation I haven't yet read.

read SW last year, just began Within a Budding Grove (for the third time). really like the Modern Library Classics editions, with D.J. Enright revisions. reading together, c'est chouette!

Looking forward to the discussions so much. I've read LD's translation SW, but the other volumes from the Modern Library will be new. I'm excited to read more of his work!
