Mary is now pregnant with the second bastard child and wonders why her husband is pissed at her. She STILL is a pushover and lets others make her decisions, and Anne ONLY JUST returned to court after being at Hever FOR YEARS. And still it is Mary who yearns for the country life (which wouldn't be bad if she had stayed there longer than 3 months and it hadn't been the fake idyllic wonderland that was portrayed).

OMG, only an hour left until "Off with her head!" On a more serious note, glad it is picking up, I thought I was going to DIE of boredom reading Mary and William's super amazing life.

Can we excise Mary and William from the story all together? Because I really don't care about them and their "happy, wonderful country life". Good thing this isn't a drinking game or I'd be on the floor :P

Uh, wouldn't Mary's elder children be a bit, oh, I dunno, UPSET about a younger sibling? A younger sibling that has NOT been separated from the mother for months at a time? In fact, why don't ANY of the children resent their mother for being gone so long? Oh, right, we gotta have this idyllic ending. D'oh!!

This is about as horrible as reading Jondalar and Ayla boink in "Valley of Horses" and declare their Twooo Lurve for each other...Mary is becoming quite the little housewife and LOVES it--even if her skin isn't as soft or pale, even if she is wasting another woman's time teaching her how to cook, even if she is doing stuff she has NO IDEA how to do. *headdesk*

"Nothing mattered more than Anne and her belly." Hmm, I remember, not too long ago, you were pretty much the same way with your kids.

Had to stop yesterday after reading about how "wonderful and pure and golden" Mary's TWU LUV for Stafford was. I've since downed a bottle of Tums.

So Mary leaves court without an escort, rides 3 days to Stafford where she declares her Twoo Lurve to him, and somehow, expects to return court??? Given he is a commoner with a farm, what would she DO? She can't cook, clean, mind the farm...Stafford would be stuck doing this until she learned and then, what if she learned it wasn't so "cute" and "fun" as she imagined? UGH!

Sexy time! Did PG take a page out of Auel's book of writing sex scenes?

Iset Back in the saddle! I savour your updates of this, you know.

Back to work, back to listening!

This is definitely not a book I dread listening to (like I was with the Anita books). I rather enjoy myself, and I think I would absolutely love it had PG cleaned up some bits of the story (a big one being Mary's character).

Jane Hever really is the cutest castle you ever saw. Of course the Astors had to totally renovate the ruin it was when they bought it, so they made it cozy but it's still adorable.

Crystal Starr Light Wow, that is quite an adorable little castle! The gardens are particularly beautiful...I'd love to walk through that labyrinth!

Jane The thing I liked most was a letter from Anne Boleyn when she was at the French court - very clear handwriting and her French, considering it was 16th century, was surprisingly easy to understand. Next time I will go solo if I can, and LINGER - trouble is, that means hiring a car and I categorically will NOT have one with right-hand drive because I'm terrified the whole time :)

Misfit Thanks Jane. I've seen pics of Hever before, but not from that angle.

Jane Does show the monstrous "Tudor village" the Astors had built as guest cottages in all its mock horrendousness. I hope Anne's ghost visited them often to complain.
