What a wonderful introduction to James Joyce! Admittedly, I haven't been reading the stories in chronological order as they appear in the book, but I will when I'm done picking out the stories that interest me the most. If I don't, I might miss too much in the transitory phases of Dublin life from child in "The Sisters" to young woman in "Eveline" (which is my absolute favorite) to middle-aged man in "The Dead".

Maddy When you're finished with "Dubliners", I strongly urge you to give "The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" a try. It's easily one of the most challenging books I've read, but I can say with certainty that it changed my life.

Ash Samoska Really, Maddy? Honestly, I'm surprised I even picked up "Dubliners". I've always been stand-offish towards Joyce because I figured I would never be able to understand his stuff. I'll maybe try "The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" this summer. :)
