Tuesday's HW: "What you still need to know is this: before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we've learned along the way" (Coelho, 132). This quotation is yet another reminder of the influence the Soul of the World and the omens have in this world.

Monday's HW: "'When a person really wants something, all the universe conspires to help that person realize his dream," said the alchemist, echoing the words of the old king. The boy understood. Another person was there to help him toward his Personal Legend' (Coelho, 114). I believe that this quote relates to the point brought up in class today about how Santiago thinks everything that happens is an omen."

Weekend HW: "That's the man who knows all the secrets of the world," she said. "He communicates with the genies of the desert" (Coelho, 94). I like this quote because it puts a lot of suspense into the presence of the alchemist. It also represents the supernatural side of this story.

Thursday's HW: "I've learned things from the sheep, and I've learned things from crystal, he thought. I can learn something from the desert, too. It seems old and wise" (Coelho, 73). This quote was interesting to me because I believe it talks somewhat of omens or the old king because it represents knowledge to be gained from every location or journey.

Wednesday's HW: "The closer one gets to realizing his Personal Legend, the more that Personal Legend becomes his true reason for being" (Coelho, 72). It is interesting how Santiago seems to be ambivalent about what he wants to do with his life; whether it be to continue as a shepherd, or to find the lost treasure.

Tuesday's HW: I am really enjoying this book because I like Coelho's writing style, and the nomadic lifestyle is interesting to me. I also have somewhat of a connection to Santiago because I love to travel, and my family often visits interesting places

Weekend HW: It is amazing to realize how much traveling faster than light has worked its way into our natural "image" of science fiction. Traveling faster than light is enormously complicated, and also violates Einstein's theory of general relativity.
