knows from Mark 15:19 that the enemy of his soul is so disgusted that blows to the head are expected. Thoughts and emotions are under assault and need to be protected by the helmet of salvation. Spiritual leaders are particularly subject to the enemy's distracting intent and need our prayers. BrianEsh73.LiveJournal.com

is reflective enough to focus on an antonym of that state he has never heard before: SOZZLED. The Google app clarified that this condition precisely involves alcohol and then hopefully used in the sentence, "uncle Brian's SOZZLED." Unless one can be drunk on words, I'm not.

trembles at how often he can follow the soldiers in Mark 15:18 and ascribe titles to Jesus that don't penetrate to his heart. Whatever worship I say or sing, however familiar, may it melt that part of me which would think little of Him. BrianEsh73.LiveJournal.com

The author shares insight on what the movie Jaws says about the state of the culture, and I find it riveting. Too bad his bike and his confusing tendency to go back-and-forth between mid-70s events and Reagan's earlier biography are so distracting from such commentary.

might have to reconsider his romantic view of Hollywood's studio system when he hears that much of it was overturned under California's indentured servitude law. So why does his beloved free market do such a poor job of motivating insightful storytelling?

has already had his thinking confronted and changed. Vintage Lewis. I realized that I envy my version of his life, tweedy, prestigious, quietly academic. I lost sight of that which McGrath quickly reminded me, that Lewis was prompted to think of life's ideas by a lot of pain. He lost his mother as a child, went through the trauma of war, as then spent much of his married life losing his wife in a battle with cancer.

can be distracted from the righteousness of Christ, says Mark 15:16, as much by the few and the proud of his select group as by the noise of the crowd. By the Holy Spirit's renewal, though, he can see human interactions as PROOF of his need for more of Jesus and less of himself. BrianEsh73.LiveJournal.com

More like THAT, please. He looks at the sensation caused by The Exorcist, Briefly and manageably relates the trend back to Aristotle and put it in a perspective that is contemporary to 1974. Somebody with that talent does not need to waste it and ink playing the snark.

is having difficulty hearing history over the din of meanness. Pointing out Reagan's departures from the truth in minor details is one thing. He is showing a lifelong pattern that will have high-stakes in the presidency. But calling Old Hollywood stars has-beens or deriding them as having been pulled out of moth balls in a "cult of nostalgia" is beginning to reveal an author with issues.

Proverbs 9 and 10 and 1 Peter 2: That the Gospel is ever transmitted from one human to another is in itself a work of grace. So many are the distractions between the heart of the speaker, his lips, and then the ears and heart of the hearer that we should not hesitate to employ at least as many efforts to keep attention as the Gospel's alternatives do.
