Just finished Wentworth's Day. Pretty creepy, for the 1930's. A little campy today, but that's what I'm looking for. (Strange but true.)

This is the kind of book I would have devoured in middle school - that seems to be the target audience. Still, it contains a lot of general info on religions and beliefs that I didn't know about. Seems a little sloppy in its presentation, though.

Started this book 2 wks ago. Slow going in some places, but finally coming to the section on Novalyne Price and Howard's last days, two things I've always wondered about. Was Howard 'crazy' or not? That's the question I'd really like an answer to.

This book has one of the best endings of any novel I've ever read. Sam's love for Frodo is one of the best things about this story, and Tolkien writes of it in a way that is both idealistic and believable. I wonder how much of Tolkien's ideals of love and loyalty were a result of his experiences in WWI. Hobbits are on the move... Sauron, your days are numbered.

Finished. Good Lord, this reading took a lot out of me. The book makes more sense to me at 40 than it did at 17, especially since I lived near Dachau for 6 years and speak German. I think Vonnegut did an excellent job of portraying everyone in this book as on the same level. No bad guys, despite the horror of everything. Bad stuff, I mean, but no real 'villain.'

I think I'm getting depressed. Billy Pilgrim's life is at once terrible and mundane. Hey, Kurt - is that the point you were trying to get across? Ohh... I get it now!

Need to have this done by Sunday; book club is discussing this one and I'm the one who suggested it, though two years ago. Last time I read it, I was 17 years old. Text makes more of an impact now.

Got distracted by a Robert E. Howard collection. Okay, no I'm back on track. Mordor, here I come!

Bought this book as a throwback to my teen years when it took a very little to give my imagination a whole lot to think about... in the wee hours of the night.
