Hmm... The phrasing of the promise Crookedkit gives is very vague: 'be loyal to your Clan above your own wishes'. Mapleshade is going to twist his words in a thousand possible ways to form half-truths and technical truths, just so she could have power over him.

Eragon is about to seek the rock of Kuthian. That's an unusual twist; I utterly forgot about it's being mentioned in the first book. And Solembum is funny - real funny, not 'attempting to be funny but coming out annoying' as Angela.

Ah, finally what I've been waiting for - the origins story for Clary and Jace. Finally we learn who is related to whom and what is the source of Clary's talent with runes. It was a very good chapter - all ties up well, and the story unfold in an interesting way.

Rainfall and Wistala are awesome. Rainfall is about to have his estate taken over. The decision? Legally adopt Wistala and sell it to her for a penny. To legally own an estate, you should be a Hypatian citizen (you can acquire the citizenship by taking an oath) and be entitled (even if it's the title of Agent-Librarian). After all, the law doesn't say it's forbidden for the dragon to be citizen and own an estate.

The minor characters aren't fully fleshed out, but there is enough to love them. One of my favourites are Tanglewhisker and Birdsong, a couple of grumpy but kind elders; Echomist, a very kind and caring queen and Shellheart, a dutiful warrior and a good father.

Clary spent three books trying to save her mother, and now, when Jocelyn is finally awake and safe, what does Clary do? She lashes out at her mother and yells at her for hiding the truth about her Shadowhunter origins and her real family. Never mind that all that Jocelyn was doing the last 16 years was to keep Clary alive and safe from Valentine.

Not as engaging as other Christie novels... Hastings is too dense, Poirot is too hazy. By now, my prime suspect is the victims eldest stepson.

Rainflower is the shallowest cat I've ever seen. She was spoiling and indulging Stormkit when he was healthy and strong, and now when he is crippled and ugly, she shuns him immediately. I love Oakkit, though. He was wonderful as Oakheart in 'Bluestar's prophecy', and he is an amazing brother to Stormkit here.

Sympathizing with Stormkit isn't easy for me. I don't like over-ambitious characters, and all Stormkit thinks about is how much he wants to be a leader. He isn't always nice to Oakkit who clearly cares about him, and at one occasion, when the two are caught outside the camp, he even blames Oakkit for it, though it was his idea. It's not all Stormkit's fault, though: I blame Rainflower for completely spoiling her son.

Each time it seems that things are getting better, they get worse. Please, don't let Rainfall die! On the brighter side, I loved seeing how people rallied to Rainfall's defence. After Wistala killed the troll, Rainfall's half-ruined poor estate turned into lively and bright place. And I loved how Jessup immediately became Wistala's friend instead of being scared and terrified by the dragon.

Wow. Turns out Aren's ties with the spirits good not only for speaking with ghosts and having visions. What's scary is that Aren can become an even worse evil than the bloodmage she is fighting...

When Inquisitor Aldertree was first introduced, he was a polite and sharp man who was very competent and good at his job; yes, he was willing to imprison bystanders and stage the downfall of innocents, but he was motivated by ‘for the greater good’ principle. Now he turned into hysterical bumbling idiot who doesn’t do anything but shout ‘I’m the Inquisitor!’ What a disappointment.

I like the book’s structure: instead of a single villain to defeat, there is a series of threats to Fallbrook to handle: the raiders, the wildlings and the mad bloodmage. Besides, I like that Aren is ready to do anything for her village despite not being a well-loved person there, just because loyalty is about something more than just liking someone.

The whole book was nothing but the web of intricate intrigues and power play. The final? It started as an honest duel that got turned into an all-out head-bashing and limb-tearing battle with no rules and a mass of participants.

This is my favourite Harry Dresden book now, with 'Blood Rites' being the second favourite. Seems like you just need to put White Court in the book to make me like it.

Eragon and Arya are so over-powerful and invincible now that it's hard to take them seriously, and the writing is often over-flowery. I guess my reading standards increased since I started this series, but it is still entertaining and the dragon battles are very exciting and engaging.

When I just started the book I worried about the romantic aspect. Aren is already married in the first chapter, and though it was an arranged marriage and her husband is killed in very early, she still loved him deeply. It would've felt wrong if she jumped into hob's arms right away, but thankfully she didn't. Hob and Aren first bonded by having a common goal, and the romance aspect appeared only late in the book.

There is an interesting topic of the paganism vs. the religion of One God. After the wild magic was bound and various spirits and wildlings lulled to sleep, people forgot about them. Now the spirits are awake and demand the thanks and songs devoted to them - but the people have One God now. I especially like that none of the religions is portrayed as evil or wrong, and the spirits don't even demand worship.

I truly love the way Harry teaches Molly: he doesn't concentrate on techniques or on power control; first of all Harry teaches her to think, to understand the consequences of both action and inaction and to make decisions - not any decisions, but right decisions.

Sebastian's character is so well-written as a villain. When you see him for the first time, he is so refreshing because he is everything Jace isn't - nice, polite, good-natured and calm. Then you meet him again and start to notice that something is off: he's too nosy, too persistent, he asks too many questions. Finally, when his true colors are revealed, he is scary in his ability to fake kindness and morality.
