Book bloggers are a mouthy lot, including me. This blog post outlines my 2017 blogging goals. Hint: they are all about social justice, economic fairness, and cultural inclusion. Goodreads contributes only a very, very few eyeballs to my reviews. Still, a few supportive friends are left here, and I'd love to see you follow the blog!

The Solstice approaches. This will be the longest night of the year. But the days will grow longer and the nights less dense from here on. Please don't lose sight of this! Brighter days ahead!

MARGARET THE FIRST is my 6-stars-of-5 read
ELEVEN HOURS is powerful, made me extra-grateful to be male
MOONSTONE is a hymn to survival as a gay man in a world that's hostile to your very existence
THE GOOD DIVIDE is the saddest book on my list, one of the best tales of longing ever
THE ATOMIC WEIGHT OF LOVE is *the* feminist novel men need to read

STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND comes to Syfy TV? http://www.ew.com/article/2016/11/15/...

How weird that something too shocking to be published unexpurgated IN MY LIFETIME comes to TV! Somebody poke Olivier Delaye, he *hated* this book. Heh.

"I don’t “support our troops” blindly; I know that they’re volunteers and could choose other paths. Realistically, however, I know there’s not a good path for lots of young men who aren’t interested in a career in some tech backwater."

If we want to diversify our politics we must diversify the culture we consume. Read more women. Read more people of color. Read more books in translation. Denormalize the story of white Anglo men. Fight the patriarchy, fight white supremacy, fight the singular ignorance of the most successful colonial language in human history. Choose your books wisely.

I agree.

The 51 Best Fantasy Series: https://www.buzzfeed.com/awesomer/fan...

Thoughts, anyone? I've read a few books, three full series, most of 8 others. Your favorites make the list? I need some ideas for my fantasy-loving patrons.

Why am I pimpin' the Choice Awards so hard? Because they have an actual positive impact on sales. Round one voting ends tomorrow. Consider following my lead...let's make a difference in the outcome.

It's been a too-warm winter so far, and now we're in spitting distance (how vivid) of Halloween, there should be frost on the pumpkins. I mean, dayum.

I posted this on Twitter and forgot to post it here: Hi indie authors! I might adore your book but we'll never know if it's only an ebook. I hate reviewing them & have officially stopped today.

If I already have a file of your book, I'll get to it, but no more.

So, Goodreads, I'm going to be here less&less. The latest asshole to piss me off was on my review of MORAVAGINE. I'm tired of listening to idiots. I'm tired of publishing full reviews here that go ignored&then randomly vanish. (I'd be a lot more pissed about that if this was the only place I posted them!) REAL tired of click-a-phobes complaining that links are just to drive traffic. (GR is less than 10%!) See y'all.

Twitter could not possibly be doing a worse job unlocking my erroneously locked account. This is the fifth time they've locked it because it's a free account and I use it heavily. I suppose I'd be better treated if I paid 'em.
Looks like the organization just doesn't want my business, despite the fact that I'm very engaged with a sizable community there. They're turning Facebookian in their stupid customer unservice.

*ANOTHER* indie author spams me with an "event" invite for a...wait for it...Kickstarter campaign! The ultimate anti-event! Not only is there zero in it for me, the goofball wants money from me!

Do your research, indie authors.

Hello again, authors. For the third time this week, and it's only Tuesday, an author recommended their own book to me! Apparently fewer people pay attention to my posts than I thought. If you want me to read your book, give me one. If you want me to *buy* your book, be Adam Christopher or Wes Chu. There are no other options.

Also, I do NOT "owe" you a review.

My weekly column about My Reading Life is live: http://tinyurl.com/jcjlktj

This week's rant is about creators and their outsized sense of what reviewers "owe" them. Hint: I don't owe you JACK, folks! Read on at the link above.

I just received a stinging slap that wasn't aimed @ me. Someone I know posted a bleat of outrage that another person was producing too much information on social media for him to process, so wasn't getting followed back. That is perfectly within one's individual rights. Just don't expect others, very specifically me, to pay attention to anything you're wanting liked:your book,website...You get back what you give.

Oh gawd. The new design is so clearly a maximization of the sellsellsellsell aspect of the site that I can now block with AdBlocker. Now I won't be able to block the goddamned sellsellsellsell bullshit that's no use to me whatsoever and is, in fact, an affront to my every sensibility.
