I really like my POV characters for this story. I feel really bad for how awful one is going to feel at the end of this book.

Now that playing Dragon Age: Inquisition is out of the way, I'm rolling along nicely on this. Still quite a few chapters to write, but the plot's falling well into place and I really like these characters.

I seem to be modelling this princess on Sesshomaru from Inuyasha. But not nearly so rude. (No one could be as impolite as Fluffy-sama.)

This definitely won't be out this year. I am making slow progress while travelling, but nowhere near my normal speed of writing.

This universe would be such a complex place to live. The system I'm calling "Allegiance" makes for some serious complications in travelling.

So I'm reading this ebook about Rome, where they're dividing the citizens up according to their wealth, and I'm thinking: "Romans have an amazing number of donkeys!". But turns out there was a Roman coin called an "As" - plural "Asses".

Chapter twelve is basically a million plot rabbits all racing off in different directions. Reader's head will spin.

Characters are discussing the triskelion. I love the triskelion. However, I suspect this is around the point Flannery would start drawing a "too much awesome" chart (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) and the average reader would be sitting shaking their head. However! I choose the Too Much Awesome route. This book wants Lots of Stuff. It shall get its awesome. And the triskelion rule.

This the most complicated plot, the most complex world-building, and the most long-plan characterisation I've ever attempted.

*whimpers*

She's the one who would turn out to be the murderer, if this was an Agatha Christie novel. Fortunately it's more, uh, er, um, kitchen-sinky. Seems to be about religion, education, trust and identity.

Or just mythologies. ALL THE MYTHOLOGIES! ALL MASHED TOGETHER! mwhahahaha!

I'm going to have to add female mentor to my commonly used tropes, since this is another of those stories (more orphans though - must stop killing off everyone's parents). Arianne is entertaining me as a main character because she's mid-thirties instead of my usual mid-twenties characters, certainly didn't have an ordinary childhood, and has a rather complicated romantic history. And she's so damn _social_.

Chapter Ten in Summary
Vampire: Let's go see if you qualify for this job.
Not Vampires: Any danger?
Vampire: Nah - most likely you'll just be ignored and I go find someone else to do the job.
Non Vampires: Okay then, let's get this done so we can go back to talking about murder.
Vampire: Sure, won't take a moment.
Non Vampires: Wait. WTF? Are you serious? I have to WHAT? And that's...AAAAGHggggh!
Vampire: :D

One of the non plot critical developments in this story is the most MASSIVE coincidence. But I don't care because the viewpoint characters are so oblivious of the massive angst knife they're witnessing.

I hereby subtitle this novel "Death by a Million Plot Hooks". And that's only working with two of the mythologies!

This is in danger of becoming a harem fic. So many love interests so little...oh, that's right. Five book series. So many love interests, why stick with one?

Learning so many interesting things about Egypt researching this book. Mainly learning that there is SO MUCH to learn about Egypt.

Glad I set my alt-point a long time ago in this universe, so I can learn a lot and then blithely throw it all into a blender and make it something different.

Sigh. Having one of those days when I just want to rant about self-pub slights, which is such a non-productive thing to waste energy on. I shall daydream instead about DWJ's "Islands of Chaldea", making its slow way to me via the British post.

Clothes are interesting in this country. People (men and women) often wear "day belts" (or smaller 'evening belts') when out and about, and can attach flat bags to them (rather than carrying a bag). The belts can be thin or quite thick girdle-like bands with lace on pockets that you can adjust to the needs of the day.

The whole country is running around wearing utility belts.
