At a museum ball Wren gets to sneak off with her hunky pal Nolan. Oh, the pretty dresses, the champagne, the limos... This book has lots of show but I feel that there isn't really a story.

Listening to this, so not sure where I am - Yah! - Jamie and Claire are together. I am impressed that Claire can adapt so easily to this world.

I don't know, I think that this book may not be for me. I'm kind of not buying the paranormal world. I will finish this book.

What a strange place to start the book. I feel like I've missed 20 years of Claire's life. And where's Jamie?

It amazes me how Jamie makes assumptions about his sister Jenny - and I loved how Jenny fought back. The women in this book are strong and opinionated.

Or thereabouts - Nothing like a solicitor to slow down proceedings and bore the blood hungry masses to tears at a witch trial.

Too many creepy feral cats. I think I am going to call this a DNF. Too many feral cats and too much teenage angst.

This is the weirdest imagery ever: "The place was desperately in need of paint; the asphalt shingles were starting to curl, the clogged gutters coughing and sputtering in the rain, like an old man with emphysema." --Nope, gutters do not sound like a coughing old man.

OK - This character Serena is dead BUT she feels pain - HUH? I would understand an out of body experience, hovering over her body, but feeling pain? You're dead girl.

More and more annoyed. Now in the race to produce a daughter to marry the Exeter's son, surrogates are getting killed off. Just ridiculous. And the leashes? Did I say how offensive the leashes are?

OK, now I am getting annoyed. It's bad enough these girls were auctioned off to become surrogates, now they are led around on a leash and veiled and fully covered?

I'm not sure what to make of this book. In many ways, I have that deja lu feeling - girls from lower income taken to be trained to be surrogates? Wasn't this already written years ago?

I feel for Adela, the main character and narrator. I can't imagine a world where a 2 year old must be betrothed to ensure that she can't be taken away from her family prematurely (or before her very early wedding). At 5, she was considered a spinster because she wasn't betrothed.
