We, the idealists, insisted that information be demonetized online, which meant that services about information, instead of the information itself, would be the main profit centers.

It is almost impossible to believe that the real-world technological optimists of the 1960s, when Star Trek first aired, were able to pull off wonders like the moon missions without the computers or materials we have today. Humbling.

Loving this book a little too much...

"When music is free, wireless bills get expensive, insanely so. You have to look at the whole system."

"Technologies are never perfect... Wanting to tweak a technology shows a commitment to it, not a rejection of it."

"Moral hazard has never met a more efficient amplifier than a digital network."

I love this book, possibly even more than the first one! Either way, chapter 22, the interaction between Vin and OreSeur, goes down as one of the best single chapters in anything I've ever read.

I'm giving up on this one. It's not a bad read, per se, but Prechtel's tone is overwhelmingly hagiographic, both towards himself and Mayan culture. He has a very interesting story to tell, but he probably should have let someone else tell it for him.

Unlike Finch, this one isn't grabbing me at all, with its unappealing lead character and slow, verbose pacing. Might abandon soon...

Surprisingly derivative and a little too impressed with its own cleverness, but fortunately a brisk read. Not loving it.

If the rest of the stories are even half as good as Scott Lynch's "He Built the Wall to Knock it Down" that kicks off this anthology, Adamant's nascent Far West franchise might become one of my all-time favorite settings!

Wanted to read this ahead of the movie and so far so good. Burroughs' style is crisp enough to overcome the old school phrasing, and the pulpy characters are just plain fun. If the movie captures those elements, it's going to be good!

I keep picturing Luke Skywalker as I read this, and thinking, if he'd been a writer instead of a Jedi, he'd have written this book... That's not a compliment.

I don't hate it, and I'm not loving it, but there's something interesting beneath the pseudo-science and literary pretentiousness that's keeping me reading.

Rodríguez has a unique, staccato almost poetic style. It took about 20-25 pages to get used to, but I like it.
