Still enjoying this one quite a bit. The author's writing style is engaging and I love reading about off-beat, but everyday things, like traffic.

So far it's good. I'm amused by some of the experts he's interviewing, like the "traffic archaeologist" who discerned traffic patterns in the ruins of Pompeii, and an expert in "the psychology of queuing". He also quotes from a Seinfeld episode where George is complaining about the guy who won't let him merge: "This guy's giving me the stare-ahead!"

I wish I could get one of those DriveCams for my son before he starts to drive. Whenever the vehicle brakes hard or makes a sudden turn, the camera records the time just before and after the event, giving you feedback so you can correct dangerous behaviors. Driving to work this morning I was a bit paranoid from reading this book, yet I still caught at least two incidences where I took my eyes off the road.

'Engineers speak of things like "pedestrian impedance" and "pedestrian interference," which sound like nasty acts but really just refer to the fact that people sometimes have the gall to cross the street on foot, thus doing things like disrupting the "saturation flow rate" of cars turning at an intersection.'
